Err...
Well, while we're all talking about Best-Of-2003 things, I think that if we
were going to talk about Best Label for 2003, Rephlex would have to get some
SERIOUS consideration.
Just about everything they've put out this year (that I've heard anyway) has
been top notch. The Amen Andrews series was incredible. Victor Gama's
Pangeia Instrumentos, although not electronic (and therefore not IDM?) is
astounding, and shows just how open these folks are to good music,
regardless of genre/format. The reissues and other-people's-label samplers
were also nice. That Stakker and Humanoid stuff is awesome. And I still
haven't even heard The Bug, although most of what I've read about it has
been positive (and the AFX mix of the one track is great, and I would assume
at least a little bit representative of the original). Oh yeah, and even
though I haven't had a chance to get all the way through it yet, the
Radiophonic Workshop 4x10" is a gorgeous document that was obviously
lovingly crafted.
That's just what I have to say. I'd love to hear what other people have to
think, be it yea, nay, or otherwise.
Later,
Alan
