It's a mix of the TTA sound, some r'n'b, dance floor friendly, ambient, and even a little rock. There's lots of vocals that they left intact which for some people might be too pop-y, but TTA's production works beautifully with the different styles. Definitely worth getting.

Not to say that TTA's music is bad, but I'm starting to worry about vocals taking over IDM. They are nice when used as smaller elements that enhance a track, effected or clean, but it seems to me IDM is becoming "poppier" by the minute. I though Red Hot Car was Squarepusher's worst tune ever. Soul vocals may work on American Idol, but they will kill IDM. That goes for Rap too. Have you heard the new TTA record? I haven't myself, considering it's not out yet. I did see them perform live last Friday in Detroit, however, and it was a great show. The vocals fit really well. Also, the one available piece of work by TTA where Lindsay's vocals are featured (Immediate Action #8, on "Sound in a Dark Room") is one of my top records of this year. If it kills IDM, I guess I'll be happy to listen to whatever's still alive if it sounds like that record. peace, bvl -- http://www.chromedecay.org || http://www.thinkbox.ca --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

HEH. Was American Idol as bad as Australian Idol? I mean, the entire competition (at least, the small parts of it that I watched) seemed to be filled with awful songs that you'd hear on some crappy easy listening station; which is fine, yet everybody (i.e. teenagers who are all like OMG, LATEST R&B SONG TOTALlY RULZ, DAT OTHER SONG IS SO YESTERDAY!) seemed to fucking love it, and the songs were played on the radio in amongst the pop top-40 or whatever. And hell, of course, the music industry seizes on the opportunity (they'd be stupid not to), and markets the fuck out of the music, with singles and what not, and everybody like sheep buys it, thinking it's the latest, coolest thing - in the same way they'd buy the latest Enimem album. I wonder how many people even realise that these wern't original songs? Most of these people would be all 'leik, dood, this song totally sukz' if they heard it on some early listening radio station. </bitch> R -- linux.conf.au 2004 - Adelaide, Australia http://lca2004.linux.org.au/ "Oh no, not again." --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yep, pretty much like you described. Although not quite as extreme, as there's enough other-idol-stuff going on in general media anyway to tame it a bit.

What's up with the eminem hate? i'm not really into the music, but he's a phenomenal writer, has a keen ear for good production, and totally brought himself up to his current status -- which is quite opposite from most popular music, who were simply "discovered" and then slickly produced to squish out easily digestable niblets of music.

Mostly the adults who had to put up with their tweens watching the show ;D derek -- eggytoast.com -- eggtastic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

You misunderstand. I don't hate Eminem, I just dislike most of his fans; the stereotypical wannabe-gangster types. I personally don't like him, or his music, but this wasn't meant as a dig against him; read what I said in context, I'm referring to the stupid mentality of most people who primarily buy the album, and listen to the music, because it's what everybody else is doing. {Eminem/50 Cent/Nelly/Whoever else is deemed 'cool'}

Heh! What worried me is the songs that could have been good ended up sounding pretty awful. Speaking of vocals being a bother, I'm sick of dancehall infecting idm. I love Snares about as much as anything, but even he can irritate me with dancehall. I'm a definate smojphace hater. I just think the dancehall vocals are extremely bothersome. More noise than music. On Thu, 20 Nov 2003, Anne Whillance wrote:

The vocals are Daddy Freddy. Don't hate on Daddy Freddy. The original of that Aphex Mix is from The Bug album. There's some fucking awesome tracks on that record. And the latest Bug 12" with Cutty Ranks is killer also. I'm standing up for more dancehall cross-over with harsh electronics. Bring on Ward 21 and Vybz Cartel collaborations. Jeff
