Morning IDMers, DUST continue to push forward with something different.... DUST vs The House of God Two Rooms of Corporate Free Clubbing Friday 27 June 2003 Well the launch party came and went and it¹s time to keep up our promise of providing the best DJs to Sheffield¹s yearning masses. For those of you who left the last one grinning don¹t wipe that smile off your face just yet; Brummie techno institution House of God will be on a mission to raise the DUST dance floor to new spiritual heights at our spine-tingling DUST #4. After 10 years of putting two fingers up to clubbing¹s elitist claptrap and breaking some of Birmingham¹s finest young talent the HOG boys are still going strong amid the sea of conformity that dominates the UK club scene. Now they¹re coming to Sheffield in aid of our cause to bring the new, the raw and the dangerous to a city still mourning former electronic glories whilst disappearing under a myriad of faceless nightlife tat. Orridge is a dull old man and why Todd Dockstader is the real godfather of techno. http://www.dustclub.com/articles.asp?id=7 Review From Movement Œ03 Detroit¹s finest techno festival reviewed from a punter¹s angle. This year sees Derrick May at the controls - can he turn the whole thing round? http://www.dustclub.com/articles.asp?id=8 Detroit-Sheffield Same Shit, Different City The search for a lost identity (Detroit), or a shared secret offering access to a parallel world (Sheffield). More reasons why they should be twinned. http://www.dustclub.com/articles.asp?id=8 Paul Damage (HOG) Paul began his career as a self-taught hip hop DJ in the late 80s and became increasingly influenced by the more caustic European techno sounds. He started his own club called Stuff and Nonsense and from this emerged the techno legend that is House of God. His highly individual, hip hop-influenced style has gained him a loyal following both in the UK and overseas courtesy of trips to Germany, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Taiwan, China and Singapore, including renowned clubs such as Tresor, the Orbit and La Real. In addition to his DJ activities, Paul is an acclaimed producer and co-founded the House of God¹s record label, HOG records, in 1997. He also records under his real name, Paul Bailey, on his own ³1881² imprint and, in addition, Paul has produced tracks and remixes for Red Seal Records, Embryo Records, Round Records and Kraktronic. Paul¹s production reflects his DJ style - a tough, angular approach that is indicative of the Birmingham sound. Sir Real (HOG) Sir Real (Neil to his friends) has, for the last nine years, been an integral part of the Midlands club scene and is one of the three original resident DJs (alongside Surgeon & Paul Damage) for Birmingham techno institution House of God. From his early days with the Third Eye sound system, Sir Real has DJ¹d and played live extensively around the UK and Europe. Sir Real is a prolific producer, and has released several EPs on Round Records as well as tracks on Embryo Records, Magic Trax, and Melt Recordings, as well as his own label, Snafu Recordings. He also helps run Covert Records with DJ Bigfoot. Most recently energy has been focussed on a new label, [k]rack-troni[k], which is an outlet for a more electro/breakbeat orientated sound. Quirky and fun, three words to best describe what Sir Real offers would be ³expect the unexpected². Harvey Lane (HOG) Playing alongside Sir Real at both HOG and Spunky Town, Harvey was also given the enviable task of mixing the compilation CD for tribal-loop favourites User Records. Mr Lane¹s own sets combine varying styles from fucked up minimalism to fucked up everythingism, with a playful edge that seems to be a running theme with the Birmingham boys. He produces tracks for his own Veto Recordings project as well as remixes for DJ Rush on the respected Sheep Records and for Makaton on Rodz-Koenz Recordings. He¹s DJ¹d extensively around the world, from Dublin to Singapore via Berlin and Copenhagen, including the famous Love Parade. Expect a fast and frenetic journey through techno¹s underground. Jim Young (ORBIT) This fella has an unhealthy appetite for hard music, illegal parties and high-tech gadgets. After travelling the world for a couple of years Jim realised what he¹d been missing - grey old Leeds and Techno! So he came back and ever since he¹s been making his mark at Orbit and feeding his vinyl habit by working at Eastern Bloc. He can also be found at Tekfresh and Deconstruction nights in Leeds. DUST has crossed paths with Jim a couple of times at Œaway¹ gigs, and it¹s fair to say his rock solid style with the odd hip hop twist makes for interesting listening in a world where Œend sets¹ seems to be the norm. Jim is definitely one to watch out for in the next six months... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
