Just arrived through the mail this morning,
f*#kin' beautifully packaged and designed,
heavy czech double vinyl.
The music is completely captivating, so many
layers of atmosphere and tiny subtle events,
carried on a subtle thrum of an almost beat
yet never quite, minor chords falling through
the chaos, more like waves lapping on the beach.
Years ago, like 1990, when the Arches club in Glasgow
first opened up, they had an installation called Alien,
based on the Alien movies, where you were supposed to
be inside a space craft, and you were being given a tour,
except a minute or so injto the tour, an alarm/siren started
going off, and the tour guys would be acting like it was
completely serious, and well, the basic gist is that they had
guys dressed as the ALiens who were chasing you round this darkened
cavernous space. So, cutting to the point, this music reminds me
of the soundscapes they had playing during the Alien thing,
reverbed dark sounds, haunting and elusive.
To compare it to anything else, the closest i could say
is like the latest Phoenecia record 'Brownout'.
