Check out Chocolate Industries. Infact their Rapid Transit compilation has Gescom and Prefuse 73 on it, so it should suit you're tastes. Also, Warp's sub-label Lex http://www.lexrecords.com/main.html should be worth keeping an eye on, although they only have a few releases under their belt so far. Glenn DynamiCell@aol.com wrote:

chocolate industries is excellent. however, i have to say that i am so far thoroughly unimpressed by what lex has been offering. i've picked up the lexoleum 1 & 2 samplers and the new boom bip 12" and they are all on the weak side, IMO. except for the boom bip track on lexoleum 1, which is absolutely rockin - i love the strings on that track. i don't really have any other labels to recommend, but two artists to check out are l'usine icl and dabrye. everything i've picked up by l'usine icl i've really enjoyed. it's not always hip-hop, but his hip-hop type stuff is definitely what i like best. i haven't picked up his latest full length, "iron city," just yet as i'm waiting for skimo to offer it on vinyl, but i hear it's pretty fresh. dabrye just put out a 12" called instrmntl on eastern developments that is simply excellent. it really is just intstrumental hip-hop done right. he's also got a cd on ghostly international that's supposed to be tight, though i haven't heard it myself. eastern developments is scott herron's label (aka prefuse73). if the dabrye 12" is any indication of where this label is going, it's definitely one to watch. - d ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenn McClements <glenn.mcclements@openwave.com> To: <Undisclosed-recipients:;> Cc: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 4:54 AM Subject: Re: [idm] idm hiphop labels

I have to agree, I was pretty unimpressed with Lexoleum one...

Iron City is really good, his best work to date IMO. All sorts of funky with just the right amount of glitchy/DSP touches.

Yes...the new Dabyre is freaking tight, really good. His previous release One/Three is great as well, pretty different from the new one, it seems to have a little less going on than instrmntl but not in a bad way. Definitely worth checking out. -- ^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^- omz beautamous loaf recordings http://www.hotweird.com/loaf/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

true true true - i stand corrected. but damn, what a good record. also, i completely forget to mention kettel. so very much in the idm/hip-hop vein. pick up the tadley management ep on planet mu and the cenny ep (album sampler?) on dub. i'm also really looking forward to his full length on neo ouija "smiling little cow" (though i wasn't too taken with the red pear ep on the same label, at least not compared to the other eps) i think that kettel is one of the best up-and-coming artists around right now. although his output can be somewhat spotty, when it's on it is SO on. and when it's on, he's got an impeccable sense of melody with nice hard hitting crunchy beats all blended with just the right amount of hip-hop flava. fresh. - d ----- Original Message ----- From: Reading, John <john.reading@us.didata.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, June 14, 2002 10:51 AM Subject: RE: [idm] idm hiphop labels
