Has anyone heard the new Jimpster single? I looked for it today, but Berwick Street let me down :( I guess he's not even considered "this listy" these days, but any opinions would be appreciated. So, because I'm open minded / never learn, I bought the Venitian Snares 7" on Planet-Mu. It's great, I like it a lot. Hard, but I can listen to it. Monday looks like a good release day - Tortoise, Joseph Nothing, Labradford and a bunch of other stuff I've skipped out no doubt. On the Scott Herren tip - I think he's great. The Prefuse 73 EP was fantastic. Just ignore all the words being bantered around about the music and just listen to it. And sort of related - Is there a John Hughes album of some sort? I've got the remixes on Hefty, which I dig, but couldn't find an album. Is it out? -i. PS - Hannibal is boring and not gory. Recently I've been listening to Jimpster's 1999 album "Messages from the Hub" and enjoying it SO much (and more than 1997's Martian Arts' acid jazziness). Which has led me to ask : What is Jimpster up to lately? The most recent thing I saw by him was an inclusion on a magazine freebie under the name of "Audiomontage" (track titled SNERT - Yay!! Hagar's dog :-) ) - and credited to J. Odell. Anybody? You're right, "Messages from the Hub" is an absolutely brilliant album. It recently seems to have become available again on vinyl, so for anyone that's been looking for it (as I was, for ages), keep your eyes peeled. Jamie O'Dell has actually been doing a slew of good shit. His Audiomontage album from 2000 was one of my very favorites of the year, a bizarre cross between kind of cheesy fusion, R&B and solid house and broken beat. There were quite a few 12s off that album as well with remixes from folks like Middleton. As Jimpster, he's put out a few 12s in the past year, including the deep houser "Seeing is Believing" (http://www.kudosrecords.co.uk/albumdetail.asp?artist=JIMPSTER&album=SEEING+ IS+BELIEVING&quantity=N) and also a brand new 12" I just picked up last week. One deep house track, one I can't recall, and one deep, deep downtempo R&B thang that sounds kinda like a mix between Hefner & Audiomontage. Also, don't forget his remix of Robin Jones' "Royal Conga," another brilliant deep house track (http://www.tunes.co.uk/tunes/featured/3711.html). Now all we need is a new LP... Cheers Philip
