can't say much more than it's probably one of the best idm records I've bought all year. Funny enough, the funkstorung track is the weakest one on there. ____________________________________________ Adesh Deosaran Uneven Foundation T 1(718)349-1578 F 1(718)504-4010 adesh@unevenfoundation.com www.unevenfoundation.com -----Original Message----- From: M Mercer [mailto:vletrmx@hotmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2001 10:46 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] Men With Boxes has anyone picked up the DUB compilation release, "Men With Boxes"? label. yes! i couldnt agree more. release in and release out, same high quality stuff. sure, everything shares a similar type sound, but nothing wrong with that. you know what yer gonna get when you buy a DUB release. a question: who is Autophonic? and why won't he/she/they release more music??? autophonic steals the show on nummer drie IMO. -brian ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Barnett" <richard.barnett@pobox.com> To: <mmercer@kent.edu>; "M Mercer" <vletrmx@hotmail.com>; <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2001 7:33 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Men With Boxes

For all those longing for "the old days of Autechre" I would suggest you seek out the Men with Boxes comp on Dub. The Funckarma track could double for anything from Incunabula, the EOG sounds frightfully similar to a song from Tri Repetae, while the Phako track sounds more in the LP5/EP7 vein. On top of that, there's neato tracks from Andre Estermann, new Funkstorung, D'arcangelo, Eavan, and others. So far this one gets my vote for comp of the year. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Totally agreed. All the tracks are great, but my favourites are Passarani (this guy gives his best works for compilations, his track on 'connecting global electronic network' was my favourite one too) and Speedy J, he never fails to impress me, his new formula (rap + hard distorted beats) seems to work this time. Rap tracks by funkstorung with mc triple x didn't impress me, but this time rap fits quite well. -- Best regards, Nick mailto:ambi@mu.ru --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I second that motion - and I've been meaning to mention it here. This gets my vote for best compilation of the year. Truly great. Hasn't left my car stereo in a week... Highly recommended ! Here is the URL for Dub Records: http://clone.nl/dub.html I ordered the CD at: http://www.skimo.com Also a search on http://www.forcedexposure.com returns this: "Dub is proud to present Men With Boxes. This compilation brings together some of their friends to collaborate on this masterpiece album. Fine musicians such as Speedy J (Warp/Nova mute/+8) together with Math aka Quench (DUB), D'arcangelo (Rephlex), Funckarma, EOG, Michael Fakesh, Chris de Luca aka. Funkstorung (M.A.S./K7), Andre Estermann (M.A.S), Phako (DUB), Marco Passarani (Nature), and Eaven (Funckarma vs Speedy J), make this album not only a bargain but also a joy to listen to. Speedy J vs Math kick it all off with their battle for tough hip hop style beats and chopped vocals, and Passarani layers his beats simply to make you bounce your head form side to side, whilst Andre Estermann moves with the aptly named gentle track 'Fragile'. D'Arcangelo warms it all up with 'Certy' and Boomoperators finish with their take on it all, enticing you to go back to the beginning and start again. For a project like this Dub left no stone unturned, even the artwork has been done by one of the most influential second generation graffiti artists around, Delta. This release comes as a limited double album vinyl version and CD and need to be tracked down, fast." Well I think that the thing thats great about Men with Boxes is that it works together as an album and not a bunch of random tracks thrown together. I believe the piano part from the Math/Speedy J track comes from a track off 'A Shocking Hobby' Rob ::::::Component Records::::::: Box 783, Somers, Ct 06071 www.componentrecords.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Static Beats <idm-list@staticbeats.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Cc: brian albers <brianalbers@hotmail.com> Sent: Friday, October 05, 2001 7:07 PM Subject: Re: [idm] men with boxes
