Excerpt from letter written by Ms. Bushnell to Editor:
Dear Sir,
I have no preference as to what musical selection I will peruse for this
installment of OHJ. In fact, you may surprise me, if you?ll forgive me for
such vulgar terms?
Surprise me indeed. Perhaps by surprise I did not mean a strange
IDM-techno-noise wankery album by Richard Devine. For crying out loud, I
expected somebody to provide me with an Uzi so I could maim a few ?bad guys?
in the process of ?listening?. I came to one conclusion, however, that
Richard Devine is a porn star name that questions the quality of my own
name, Renee Bushnell. Perhaps you spent many a childhood summer on Devine
Blvd or Devine Rd or other such places of residence, but whatever the
reason, Mr. Devine, there was way too many subliminal messages for me to
count.
Between the sheets? No, man, between the beeps. While listening to
the first track, I was struck by what it said to me, the hidden meaning
behind ?Resource, Leak?. The only thing I could come up with was leakages of
his ?man fluid?, the precious ?resource? used in the porn industry to spew
forth onto the waiting stomach of an actress, if she may be called an
actress. I?m fairly sure the bible was against ?leakages? of that type.
Fast forward to the fourth track, ?Swap, Trigger?. Please, dear
readers, look beyond the music, beyond the electronic sounds, and look at
the title. Swap? Swap fluids you mean. And pardon the euphemism, but when
you ?shoot? you pull the ?trigger?. You know it?s true. Freud would have a
field day with Richard Devine. Though if you were merely looking for a good
example of tolerable wankery of the electronic sort, this would be the best
on the album in my opinion. But that?s beside the point because Richard
Devine is dirty! You know the story of Sodom and Gomorrah? You know what
happens to those who pull the trigger too soon.
Track five, ?Kepter?. Perhaps to the plain eye one would not see the
hidden meaning behind this title. Kepter = Kept Her. Kept her what? Waiting?
Waiting for the trigger to leak, obviously. The problem with the porn
industry is that the important climax is the male climax and that most
males, when asked, would rather keep her waiting after they finish and thus
fall asleep, exhausted. Track eight, ?Lens, Align.? The camera must have
been ?out of focus? and it needed ?alignment? to continue videotaping. This
was Richard?s message to the porn industry, so they might buy more expensive
cameras, because they are too low budget for even his tastes!
Divine this album was not. Perhaps I am influenced by my aversion to
electronic noises that are not accompanied by a video game or at least the
clicking of a mouse. (Single click) However, for my first voyage into the
unknown of the IDM industry, this was not the ear abuse I expected. It was a
shock, however, on my moral and value judgments as I was bombarded by porn
references and inferences in every beep of the machines. In conclusion, I
may look like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, but I certainly do not have the tolerance
that she does.
12.5/43 - yeah 43
Thought you might enjoy this review of Richard Devine by a friend of mine.
