Has anyone heard the Dylan Group covering the Orb's 'Towers of Dub'? What do they do with it? How is it? etc. Sounds like it could be pretty damn cool... or not at all. Covers are always a bit hit and miss, IME. Yep, it's on the Ur-Klang Technique album.

It's wonderful. They're pretty dubby already, bassline and production-wise, and it's just beautiful. I'm not all that familiar with the original track, having only got their first album and their own fabulous remix collection "Aunty Aubrey's Travels (?) Beyond the Call of Duty?"... But anyway, it's got their trademark vibraphones, including some bowed vibraphone notes, very dubby bassline, etc etc, and is highly recommended. Very stylistically sensitive and appropriate I'd say. But then I love the Dylan Group and Mice Parade... so should you all! I dunno about that Dylan Group cover, but I do remember hearing a cd about a month or two ago which was of a classical string quartet (2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello) covering "Little Fluffy Clouds" as well as a bunch of other contemporary techno/electronic tunes and it was nothing but crap. I don't remember the name or label of the cd, but perhaps that's a good thing.

the orb cover is probably their best cover of the ones i've heard, except maybe the girl from ipanema just cause it's so damned catchy. the john cage cover from the same album (it's all about rimshots and faulty wiring) is...eeerr..well it's just a swoosh sound in the middle of a 4 minute silent track..i'm not knocking it, but really, why cover john cage? for a bit of a chuckle you all should seek out the "we are the music makers" cover they did (also on the same album) attila --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The group is Instrumental - the record is Acoustek - features the Orb's Little Fluffy Clouds, Sabres Of Paradise's Smokebelch. I think its pretty cool myself. I think its out on the big chill's label. If you like that maybe you'lll also go for Acid Brass by Williams Fairey Brass Band which is a colliery brass band playing Strings Of Life, Vooday Ray, and What Time is Love, etc. My ex-flatmate has that Dylan Group CD - the towers of dub cover is spot on. chilled out real instruments skanking loping dub style.
