in hopes of getting this list back into music mode (no thanks to me i know)... disregard the mildness of my comment earlier about supersilent 4... it's a fantastic album! a mix between jazz, electronic music & noise should never work, right? well, supersilent is as relentless as free jazz, & as precise as the best techno. manages to loses shape without losing ground... or is it the other way around? a very original sound which works because of sheer density, detail, & a sense of exploration quite unlike what i'm used to. there is SO MUCH music on these 7 tracks! still not quite the 'idm free jazz' i was trying to find a few months back, but it's getting very close... & it's a nice direction indeed. anybody with comments on supersilent 1-3 please forward them this way. i've also gotten the new chessie album, which strikes me as having both a similarity in sound & a bit of the same problems as köhn 2, but it's a lot more listenable. but still, not a hell lot of detail. an enjoyable listen though. maybe i should give köhn 2 another chance. i've also gotten a dj scud 7" from the gun court series because the store sticker on it made a point to mention: 'very crazy breaks'. but i've yet to listen to that one. & i thought i'd never buy anything dhr-related! so, let's put the content back in 'idm content' shall we... ~ david np: blonde redhead. that & ut were the only rock bands i really listened to this year. gotta love that obscure sonic sound. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Apologies if someone's been over the same ground here, but 4 was palpably a drop in the bucket compared to the sustained cranial inversal of 1-3 (which is still one of my favorite releases of '98). Since I'm in the mood to recycle, below is some verbiage sent to The Wire list (itself recycled from a work-in-progress). oh, and a rhetorical answer to the question above: Sun Ra....? ---clip----- Supersilent 1-3 3CD (Rune Grammafon) This set is a full-throttle instrumental freakout birthed from a fully electric jazz/improv nucleus. However, unlike most extant examples of this praxis, the tendency to cartwheel into outer space is continuously reined in by a masterful human pulse. It is this omnipresence whose many manifestations in many different pairs of hands (most of which are seemingly attached to the drummer) provides the homebase for a dizzying array of divebombing analogue synth sortees and electric guitar throttling. Even though it's more swing than slam, students of the eternal headbang may want to stockpile these in case of a world-wide Slayer outage. For denouement, the third disc reaches into more meditative spheres, but for the most part, it's GO, baby, GO! i got 1-3 in the meantime since i've been so impressed with 4 & now 4 sounds to me like the weak one, sonically... but the 'songs' are a lot more together, which may or may not be a good thing, it mostly depends what you're in the mood for. however, 1-3 is downright manic. machine gun for the nineties, perhaps. ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
