after purchasing the super_collider CD a bit back i became rather obsessed with this 'type' of sound. so... i recently picked up the space raiders CD on the skint / medicine label. (hoping it would have some of the same qualities as super_collider) although there's no singing (with the exception of some samples and vocodes / speak & spell) this a very nice release. it has this kinda weird funk / jazz vibe with a little touch of electro. the music isn't overly complicated, but it works very well. me likes... i also snagged christian vogel's latest release on tresor (tresor.110) and i'm truly impressed. i listened to his stuff a few years back and didn't really care for it, but maybe his 'style' just wasn't for me at that point in time. should i go back and listen to all his releases or are there any in particular that stand out? (i really REALLY like this one...) the remixes on the third 'installment' of the warp10+ series are slick indeed. (this has been reviewed in detail, so i won't add to the babble) MiniDiscs. i chose a portable MD recorder over a CD burner. it hasn't arrived yet, but i love it already. (if you plan on buying one, order it directly from japan / hong kong... way cheaper and you can get the new stuff before it arrives in the states) i was thinking of a cool 'remix' project for this list. (yes, antoher remix idea...) kinda similar to the gescom MD, only better. hehe... anyway, what if a bunch of people (including myself) 'composed' 1-2 minute pieces that had no intro or outro. (i.e. something that could be looped or 'pasted' to another portion of music... the verse or chorus in musical terms) after each person finishes his / her 'composition' the final pieces would be recorded to MD. using the shuffle mode function of the MD player, you would end up with a different song / mix each time. (yeah, it would get old after a bit, but i still think it's a cool idea) obviously some sort of theme and communication would be needed between the composers in ord! ! er to complete something that could be randomly compiled and sound somewhat coherent. or maybe i'll just do this by myself for my own amusement. hex bin octal two's compliment offset bin precision adaptive sub-band coding integer ratio fractional ratio variable ratio ADC anti-aliasing filter (nine pole) track / hold circuit quantizer coder sample rate clock eight bit flash converter (256 values) capacitor - current leads the voltage inductor - current lags the voltage Xl = Xc -> resonance source / modifier -> amplifier (simple synthesis) just say 'NO' to terrorism, christian.adam.hresko [Class.Object] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
