i absolutely fell in love with that comp, and it turned me on to a lot of housier/jazzier stuff i'd never discovered before. my first recommendations are *Jazzanova -- really, anything they've done; their remixes (such as the Pooley "what's you number" on rootdown) are especially good *Swag -- the "Felony Funk" LP (on primitive, i belive) is incredible. one of my tops for '99. deep, chunky house with bits of afro & disco thrown in. *Tom Middleton, "A Jedi's Night Out" on Mixmag -- also features the same Jazzanova/Pooley track, and lots of other killer house in a similar vibe. CD is a mix, vinyl is unmixed. If you did more of the Afro-house sound, you might check out a couple of other records on Nuphonic: Soul Ascendants 2xLP (heavy Fela influence) and Streetlife Originals "Sidewalk Stories" -- more of a disco edge. Finally, you should check out Compost records (www.compost-records.de, or maybe .com), which has a similar feel to some of the Rootdown stuff (I believe Compost's Rainer Truby is featured on Rootdown) -- especially try Future Sound of Jazz 6, for a sampler of other stuff to check out. Hope this helps! There's a lot of brilliant stuff in this vein that never gets discussed on this list; that really should change. (I believe Compost's Rainer Truby is featured on Rootdown) ---------------------- Truby compiled Rootdown. There's actually another compilation out there called Rootdown, also compiled by Truby, of older rare groove/jazz tracks from the sixties and seventies. i got to say...you're right on my wavelength with everything you posted! can i add: the Faze Action album on Nuphonic, anything by Circulation (the one from E3 and Heard recordings, aka Diz aka Joshua), gorgeous, melodic, inventive, sickeningly-well-produced house music...see also the Mundial Muzique compilation on Guidance, the Truby-compiled Glucklick compilations on Compost, the New Latinaires compilations on Ubiquity plus all the numerous Jazzanova remixes, all wicked...Rainer Truby's been a bit absent lately...i'm assuming there's a few Truby Trio eps/remixes coming out (one of Nitin Sawhney is already out)... other things i've really been feeling: the Audiomontage ep on Freerange new Ian O'Brien single on Peacefrog (his 'gigantic days' was in my top five this year) Kirk Degiorgio's recent work remixing Newcleus, Beanfield (not to mention the Beanfield album "Human Patterns" on Compost), and Tate's Place (whose 'Burnin'' was also remixed by Jazzanova, brilliantly) Fela Kuti ("Opposite People"...does music get better than this?) Depth Charge "Lust 2"...haven't heard volume 1 yet but happened to take a chance on this, and holy fuck, the bass in this will tear your head off...sick dub-based breakbeat/hip hop tracks with intense stereo effects/studio tricks, the requisite kung fu samples and the hardest-hitting beats i've heard in awhile...anyone heard 1? Isolee's "Beau Mot Plage", Heaven & Earth mix and new Freeform mix. I"m not quite sure what you'd call it but it's beautiful. :) the new 2000 Black release....anyone have a discog for them? i'm missing releases... whew... can anyone give me some insight into Wevie Stonder? is this Skam's comedy album? i'm not sure i get it... anyone hearing anything else similar? mikebee --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

on this housey tip i'd like to recommend guidance records from chicago. with a roster including dubtribe, glenn underground and nu spirit helsinki (check them out) amongst lots of others they really can't do anything wrong for me at the moment. they also released some stylish compilations the last few months: 'mundial muzique' is an album with some percussive house tracks (from nick holder, jazzanova a/o) as well as latin-influenced music including an incredibly happy sounding bill summers track from the seventies. there's also a housier mix album of which i lost the name at the mo'. do check them out @ www.33rpm.com cheers, name [~] peter cozijn e-mail [~] pu@dds.nl habitation [~] lisse, the netherlands music fsft [~] huizen.dds.nl/~pu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Including Kevin Yost, who is the top dog for me on Guidance. I've also got a Nuphonic compilation from last year (98) titled simply Nuphonic 01, which is also excellent. Maybe you'd like Ashley Beedle's stuff as Black Jazz Chronicles? I can highly recommend Future Ju Ju. Yes. Lust 1 is even better than 2. Take what you said about 2 and multiply it twofold. Overall,1's a more consistent album than 2, but both are worth owning and playing out in venues that can handle truly inventive downtempo music. Do such places exist?
