i've been meaning to post something about subversal records
for a while now. based in columbia, mo, subversal is a
sublabel of sparkling beatnik. they've got two CDs out by
a friend of mine, jon sheffield, and they just put out a
collaboration between charles uzzell-edwards of fax fame
and daniel pemberton from 2-player. while i haven't yet
heard the new one, _enhanced environments_ (it's in the
mail!), i am very excited about the future of subversal.
jon's CDs, entitled _calves valves_ and _shore hoses_,
capture the brilliance of his live performances and hint at
his capability to extract warm, mind-altering atmospherics,
rhythms, and melodies from cold machines. he is blessed
with a truly magnificent imagination and the technical
skills to back it up. look for a full review of _calves
valves_ from me soon. in the meantime, check out samples,
