hello idm list. my turntable [some second hand pioneer ancient device] took a shit the other day, so now i have all these records coming in by such acts as[the gentle people | sqrpshr/ richard thomas | gescom | phoenecia | alder & elius]. to name a few. i've kind of figured out that technics is the preferred manufacturer. ? and have seen some decent used prices on ebay / some not so decent. what do you guys / gals recommend? what is the difference between the motors that are out there, belt / direct drive? umm.? take into consideration that i'm looking for the best possible transfer from vinyl to my minidisc unit. or grooves to 0's & 1's. klint. icq\4035572/klintd.i.am|end. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I know this is kind of off-topic, but I should mention (if people don't know already) that Technics lost the patent on their legendary 1200's about four years ago, and since then a number of decent "clones" have been popping up. The best of which in my opinion is the Gemini PT-1000.... I bought one four years ago, and it's really nice. Same torque, +/- 10% pitch control, and quartz locking.... also, for a cartridge check out the Stanton 680... it's not supah great for DJing but perfect for primo broadcast-quality recording... the 505's are nice for DJing (much better sound quality than the 500's) but until you get to crazy stuff like trackmasters, etc. (at $80-$150 each) you'll do fine with the 680. Soz you know. Aaron --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
