anyone know anything about HYMEN records? i just picked up an lp by imminent starvation. very dense, and yet somehow still intelligent, hardcore techno that's very obviously german. references could include both panacea and autechre. nice. also is anyone planning on going to the future fest in atlanta on the 21st? Richard Devine and pheonicia. Adam X. plus a bunch of weaklings, but we'll overlook them. randumb ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Hymen is the 'technoid' sublabel of Ant-Zen records.. IMO definately pick up anything and everything by imminent starvation.. you can definately hear a progression in his sound from 'human dislocation' to his latest full length on antzen 'nord', but its all quite brilliant. For a good introduction to this stuff, check out the 2disc Hymen compilation Teknoir, awesome wonderful stuff. www.ant-zen.com

here is something I posted a while back (p.s. passarani CD on Hymen is quite good): For a long time I avoided ant-zen/hymen. I had always heard that they were power noise labels. But, I kept seeing releases in my local shop. Day after day, mocking me. So I pick one up. A 2CD compilation called teknoir (on hymen) and am supprised to see oil 10, bochum welt, it and black lung on it. Perhaps it is worth a listen.... And I am glad I did. At times the tracks are hard, fast and sporadic. While at other times they are more flowing and based on an emotional response. A running theme throughout the CD is the use of noise to compliment beat structures and synth lines (that is not to say melodies are never employed). All in all though I would have to say that this is IDM material. Some of it definitely reminds me of older aphex updated for today. My favorite track on the comp is by klangstabil. Think a more lo-fi i-f or kraftwerk gone bad. Considering all this, it makes the CD one of the more original discs I have bought lately. I will be paying attention to these labels from now on. And just think all the artists involved on the comp made interesting electronic music without copying autechre. Who knew. for more info (sound samples etc..): www.ant-zen.com -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com

Hymen records is an off-shoot/subsidary/sister of Ant-Zen Records.. They mainly deal with noise projects (which they call rough technoid) and ambient releases. Most of their releases are wax, but they do have CD releases as well. Some of the bands they have released works for include Imminent Starvation, Beefcake, p*a*l, Architect, Converter, and one of my favorites, Snog. A suggested starter release by them is a recent compilation they released called teknoir, a "rough technoid & ambient" double CD set, which was recently highlighted in Interface Magazine. You can go to the Ant-Zen site here: http://www.ant-zen.com and the Hymen site here: http://www.klangstabil.com/hymen/ Hope this helps! ::CyBeRiNa FLuX:: http://www.abbadon.com/cyberina “Conscience is the inner voice that warns us that someone might be looking.” - H.
