also check out labradford, pan american (one haf of labradford), mouse parade (someone from the dylan group), slint and if you live in the uk, well if you live anywhere, forth quartet. the last two are a bit closer to "normal" rock. but i wouldn't call them rock. forth quartet make minimal guitar tracks, with so much space and lihgt in them, they are beautiful, the songs are amazing, i reccomend the debut lp, "they built ships that sank". errm, email: sales@heavensentrecords.com or visit www.heaventsentrecords.com or amybe it's co.uk can't remember. anyway, truewly wonderful. and you can hear soundclips at the web site. post rock and idm go hand in hand if you ask me. they are both beautiful and compliment each other marvellously. the fatcat retrospective, accross uneven terrain, is the perfect example of this, it's got idm, noise, soundscapes, post rock and even some live hip hop on there. i wouldn't consider this "OT" bt if it has offended your idm sensibilities, then please take my apologies.

You know, I've seen a lot of these bands live, but Ui and Pan Am both annoyed me by playing what sounded to me like Lynyrd Skynyrd tributes. They're only partially post-rock.

Sounds terrifying. But gives me a good idea. Next IDM-y show I attend, I'll yell "FreeBird" for the encore. Just can't wait to hear Autechre's version. This happened to Zappa once. For his next tour, he had his band play a Zappification of the song. Be careful what you wish for... By the way, listened to Patrick O'Hearn today, and one track sounded very Autechrish. Well, Autechre on Prozac. Go figure. I don't know any Ui other than the red remix album, which is quite groovy. Just basses and drums for the most part. Why, oh why, Crusher of Chairs, dost thou have such a cruel name? Thou has undoubtedly slain many a wild chair and thereby saved many a fair maiden! Regards, Zenon M. That's just math-rock. Or prog. I think postrock implies that you have other influences besides rock and A Minor Forest just sound like a plain ol' rock band. People have been mentioning Slint and I'd say the same thing about them. emosissy wrote:

I had a similar experience seeing Tortoise live. In fact that show left such a bad taste in my mouth that I've lost interest in anything they've done post "Millions Now...". They were trying to improvise and it was so obvious that they haven't done their homework it was disgusting. ChairCrusher wrote:
