Here is the low down as I see it. Most wouldn't put this under the "intelligent" moniker of IDM. It is basically a bunch of appropriated samples (which they didn't pay copyright for) cut and looped in a way to make dance music. Some guy Ollie Olsen added beats or something to it. I actually like it, it is fun and kind fo silly (they use burps for the bassline to one of the songs). I don't think it would be a lot of people on this list's cup of tea though. The one annoying thing is that the real tracks are broken with random, weird tracks of what sounds liek someone just turning the knob on the radio a lot or just a long monologue taken from somewhere. They aren't very inteteresting and they seem pointless ot me. Got to give them kudos for espousing the Negativland no copyright ideal, although they aren;t out to make any statements whatsoever. I interviewed them for a humor ezine I write for called The Shrubbery. Check it out at www.theshrubbery.prohosting.com and then look for it in archives. Its the ezine's one year anniversary...hooray! This might be off topic, but an thinking about ordering the new-ish Stars of the Lid, the one where they incorporate sounds from Jon McCafferty's paintings...how do they do that? Like, what sounds does he actually make painting? Just curious to see if they really do anything interesting or if it is just Stars of the LId with the moise of some guy mixing his paints over it. Went web snooping with Sherlock and it seems we are both correct. Olsen worked with Michael Hutchence and John Murphy (among others), on some group called Max Q. On the other side of the fence, he was, along with Orchestra of Skin and Bone and Krang, one of the first artists on Extreme records. I think he worked with both of those groups. John Murphy worked with C93 (Dogs Blood Rising!) and Whitehouse. Now Olsen is doing a Genesis-P and making a name in the trance music scene.

Post 'the Hutchence thing', Ollie Olsen gained noteriety for kickstarting the techno scene in Melbourne ca. '89/'90 recording music under the moniker: Third Eye. He started a trance label based in Melbourne called Psyharmonics. The first release was Third Eye's highly acclaimed Ancient Future, which was released in 1991. A fusion of techno and trance (psy trance) with a particular aussie feeling brought out via a liberal use of aboriginal chant samples, didgeridoo, etc.. The Psyharmonics label was built around the releases of artists like: Mystic Force, Zen Paradox, The Spiritualist, Lumukanda and Masaray amongst others. The mid '90s saw the release of artists like Psyko Disko and Rip Van Trippy. To the best of my knowledge the label hasn't released anything for at least a year and O.O. is no longer recording under the Third Eye name. The last I heard Olsen was done with 'trance' and had begun experimenting with jungle, however I have not heard the music. The Psy Harmonics web site is located here: http://www.peg.apc.org/~psy/ It has not been updated in well over 2 years. BUT, I just checked it and they have an 'under construction' place holder page up ... By the way, I am looking for the following Psy Harmonics titles: psy-harmonics psy018, sonic sufi: sacramental, cd, psy-harmonics psy025, germinator: alosakum, cd, psy-harmonics psy026, ree k: yammataikoku, cd, psy-harmonics psy028, parasonix: buzzbug, cd, psy-harmonics psy032, reflecta: creatures, cd, psy-harmonics psy033, various: hacking the reality myth, cd, psy-harmonics psy034, grey area: grey area, cd, psy-harmonics psy035, rip van hippy: waking up is hard to do, If you have something from this list to trade let me know immediately! And here is a discography (from ad.techno.org) Psy 001 Third Eye - Ancient Future (CD) Psy 002 Mystic Force - Everglade Psy 003 Zen Paradox - Eternal Brainwave (CD) Psy 004 Third Eye - New Life Psy 005 LumuKanda - Red,Black & Mellow Psy 006 Zen Paradox - The Light At The End...?
