i recently started listening to the New Order release on Touch again. (I think its video 687). does anyone know the story on this? i remember reading something about this, but i would like some more information.. i think someone mentioned the short b side was actually a joy division song of sorts.. sounds a bit like exercise 1 (off jd's 'still' to me.. perhaps recorded at the same time?). the long track sounds like a super deconstucted and extended blue monday. amazing i think. fill me up with info please :) newwavechris.

Here is something I posted a long time ago. I am amazed that I keep this stuff around: (from Sep 1997) Not really idm but worth discussing. A month or so ago I saw mention of this and found it the other day. New Order was one of those bands who got me to listen to electronic music to begin with. Video 5-8-6 is a 22 minute track composed for the opening of the hacienda back in 81 I beleive. No vocals are present. It is basically new order doing a electro trance number <i have no other way to describe it>. It vaguely reminds me of blue monday. The track has a very nice groove and somewhat stands up today. I found myself nodding along with this 22 minute song. Never once getting bored with it. Kinda lulls you into it. A little dated yes but way ahead of its time for 81. If you want something different check it out. If you are a new order fan it is a must. As an added bonus, the vinyl version has a b side. The b side has a track by Joy division. The track is "as you said" and is from the 7 inch (flexi I think) komakino. The identity of this track comes from a reliable source. This track is amazing. Sounds like something from today. Something perhaps on plug research or the like. There are no lyrics and it is very short. -daniel

it's an extended/remix version of "5.8.6." from the Power Corruption & lies album. Video 5.8.6 Released 8/97 on Touch Records Recorded in 1982 by NewOrder for the opening of the Hacienda Club in Manchester,England. A shorter, more 'polished' version appeared 1 year later on the album "Power,Corruption, & Lies."This full version clocks in well over 22 minutes & is the ONLY track to appear on the CD-single. The short B-side to the 12" features a short, rare, Joy Division song "And Then Again..." Read about it at Touch. spaul99
