Just got the Acid Again single today. Nice <thick> Jack Danger beats. Its really good to hear JD doing the big beat sound again. Subliminal Sandwich didnt do much for me but this new track sounds like it picks up where Satyricon left off. How does the rest of Actual Sounds + Voices sound? Jeffrey. ........................... very similar to the Acid Again track.. the largeness of 99% in beats but with the lush production of subliminal sandwhich. a return to his true form, in my opinion. well worth picking up. np - the weakener 'what do you know about it' :: wells oliver / s0ewoliv@titan.vcu.edu :: 'try to smile as they devour our youth'

I must be the voice of dissent - I've heard the two singles so far and was basically put to sleep by them. They're tedious and deriviative. "Ooh, we'd better throw another wacky sample in here." Not to mention that the beats are mixed too high, it feels like they're hardly there.

Now there's a great album, one of the best this year. Too bad SubPop probably won't sell enough copies and may go under (see Rolling Stone).

Am I the only one here who is frankly bored of Actual Sounds + Voices? It doesn't even come close the rawness Jack concocted on 99%, or Storm the Studio for that matter (the BOMB MBM album). Acid Again is the weakest track on the record IMHO. For me it's clearly an attempt at reaching all those yucks who blast Prodigy Brothers all day. I mean please I've had enough of the 'acid' references, Thrill Kill used that exact same sample how long ago? Jack's usually up to snuff when it comes to using more obscure samples, I don't know I guess I'm just let down, for me it will never compare to the older material. On the upside, I think the last 2/3 of the record are pretty tight. Oh and that track 'Oblivion'... Nate On Fri, 30 Oct 1998, wells wrote:

I agree with you. The first part of the album seems like mbm's version of big beat. However, after Acid again the album picks up and I find it quite enjoyable. The first few tracks though just don't do it for me. -daniel

It's a well-produced, entertaining, groovy record, but I still keep thinking there's not much there we haven't heard from him before. Previous records have had more surprises. "Acid Again" does demonstrate there is plenty more to be done with "acid" basslines -- just steer away from the standardized 303 sound and/or junk the 4otf beat. --Mark __ Burning Rome : SENSELESS CD on Mindfield Records MindCD03 Cathartium 14 > Distributed by Dutch East India Trading, Com Four, and Carrot Top < < http://www.xnet.com/~mkolmar/BurningRome > < MP3 & RealAudio tracks >

Very well put. I feel like I keep hearing the same song over and over, which shouldn't bother me, cuz half the music I listen to sounds like the same song, and yet I feel like Jack is capable of so much more... "Acid Again" does demonstrate

Yeah I guess I'm just tired of the whole acid bassline thing. The track Original Control, now that acid bassline was plenty wicked... anyhoo... Nate
