Sounds like you'd be better entertained by Janet Jackson's aerobocize-lip-sync show than one where musicians dare to go on stage with nothing planned. How about if we ponied up for a r/t ticket for Mark Smith to come from Manchester to L.A. to head butt some sense into you. CT

i'm wondering, did their improv set just not "connect", or did it lack vitality, or was it really sloppy, or something else? i missed them when they came around to NYC last weekend, and i've got major regrets right now. so i'm curious as to whether these guys are just not in "shape" or is this simply a matter of taste? oh, and how was James Plotkin? btw, it really is a sad day in kraut-land when expressions like "old fart Can guys" start getting thrown around. :) read the Bible my friends, learn from Jonah and his repentance in the belly of the whale... yeah, it just wasn't there. but those two have always been my least two favourite members of can, so... plotkin/spybey was incredible, though. one of the better thigns i've seen recently. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# see the stars, they're shining bright/everything's alright tonight

Plotkin bailed out and some other dork joined the tour. Their set was extremely boring and we spent most of it in the smoking room playing pool, ms pacman and asteroids. The only good out of the whole night was Lexaunculpt which my friend mike said he thought was the best thing he'd seen since autechre live. In my opinion it would have been a hell of a lot better if it was just Alex without Brad from Electric Company blasting out of time noises and crap over the top of alex's music. As for the can guys, greg was right. We all knew they were going to suck so we loaded alex's gear up and went for tacos. If Holger Czukay was there, I'm sure it would have been a different story. word to the mothership, brockout

can you send mark e. smith here to rhode island to head butt me? i figure if he beats up his girlfriend (she replied with a telephone to his head i believe i read) for free maybe he'll do me as well. hopefully he'l be wearing his sweater vest. I'm sorry but there is no Can content in this message When Mark went to Disneyland he witnessed an emergency situation with ambulances coming out of bushes for a woman who got her head caught off on a roller coaster-ah. CT

Yeah, they are plugged into something stronger - it was Kenny's Green Guy. You could see he was baked from the back of the hall. Of all the IDM'ers on this

Its more like a bug in the bassbin. My point with you and the other premee was that although you have the right to your (uninformed) opinion you would have got better results by witnessing the whole show and participating in the event they way Can's audiences did (not from the back of the hall). Hitting the Can-type groove with a lineup a couple dates old is not instant like playing a video game or turning on a sampler. Obviously it was a mistake having idm content on the Damo Suzuki/Michael Karoli tour (Mark Spybey was included because he has the same management). An audience of nerds with Richie Hawtin hair cuts and Sesame Street-entrained attention spans is not going to inspire these guys. Cheers CT idm content: Legion Of Green Men The Borderless EP Post Contemporary CDEP $10 Out Oct 13th. Limited edition, numbered release for the latest evolution of their chilled dub & breaks sound (including two remixes). First single from long-anticipated 2nd album Floating In Shallow Water (due Jan '99).

how did they participate (the audiences)? you sound like you were there...

mark spybey has no idm connection. he comes from a straight experimental/industrial background. and i guarantee that no one with a short attention span owns a dead voices on air disc. and the only people i see with richie hawtin haircuts are richie hawtin, moby, the occasional raver kid, army recruits, black basketball players, and old guys. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# see the stars, they're shining bright/everything's alright tonight
