Check the "Jayou" track off the recent Jurassic 5 EP (J0001 Rumble/Pickininny). S'got flutes and some smoove vocals, I spin it with a lot of the tracks you mentioned. Even if Jayou's not your cup of tea, "Lesson 6" by Cut Chemist is on there, and that's a piece of work.

I think I missed the original post so I don't know if this was mentioned, but how about "Tongebirge" from _Ralf & Florian_? It's pretty flutey. Don't know about finding it on vinyl, though. --------------------------- Danny Wyatt danny@arbitrary.com http://www.arbitrary.com/

Some ideas: Flutesque - WE on their As Is LP. Coldcut's classic "Paid in Full" remix - EricB and Rakim, real cool simple flute sample Up, Bustle and Out has some downtempo flute stuff I'm guessing Frankie Knuckles' Flute Song is classic! Laika uses nice flutes. ° - . _ . - ° ¨ ° - . _ . - ° ¨ ° - . _ . - c h r i s t ø p h e r f ª h e y . _ . - ° ¨ ° - . _ . - ° ¨ ° - . _ . - ° ¨ chris@raremedium.com 2 1 2 - 6 3 4 - 6 9 5 0 x 2 5 8 http://www.raremedium.com - ° ¨ ° - . _ . - ° ¨ ° - . _ . - ° ¨ ° - .

in addition, Phil Niblock's "Four Full Flutes". not idm at all, but good to sample. from what i understand, it's a favorite with turntablist, Christian Marclay. ---------------------------- Dunc Chaplin is my name, Ireland is my nation. Don't sample it. Just listen to it. It's great. As is all Niblock. Buy it all. All of you. Now. -Hrvatski. np: Chaos AD- Buzz Caner 3LP (good acid). __________________________________________________ Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge.________________________ _________________________________PO Box 382864-2864 Cambridge, MA 02238-2864____________________________ _______________________________________________USA _______________Main URL: http://www.tiac.net/users/sheket __________________________________________________

these are some non-IDM suggestions that people on this list might want to check out as a good source for sampling, or even just to listen to...(i'm taking the liberty to post this for a lurker): Paul Horn - "Inside" (off of Rykodisc) 1967 1967 is a pivotal year for this guy. after doing some time as an altoist and flutist (see Cal Tjdaer, associations with Lalo Schifrin), his more recent stuff has been new age flute "mood music" type stuff. "Inside" ain't that great of an album imho, and if you want something to actually listen to and add to your record collection, i'd recommend starting with "Nomad" (off of Kuckuck). then pick up "The Peace Album" (same) or "Africa" (Gema) which is basically Horn's interpretations of compositions by Sekou Camara Cobra - this is a little more jazzy. Blues Project's - "Flute Thing" their bassist, Andy Kulberg plays flute, along with some sweet jazz instrumentals by Al Kooper and a rather psych-y sounding Danny Kalb. on "Projections" (Verve). i still gotta pick up "Best of..." one of these days. Eric Dolphy solo flute pieces - ? didn't mention anything specific, so i'll jump in here, though, i'm no Dolphy expert. on "Other Aspects" (Blue Note), there's a cool piece entitled "Improvisations and Tukras" which has Dolphy on flute backed by some Indian percussion - not your typical Dolphy from my encounters. most of his records that i know of have him playing the flute, and i'm way too busy right now to go through them all to find "solo flute pieces". just wanted to mention in passing that the post-humous "Vintage Dolphy" (w/ Don Ellis, Jimmy Knepper, Benny Golson, Jim Hall) has him doing some "out there" avant-classical shit from Gunther Schuller, like "Densities". -peace out- Dunc. np: Gangstarr - "Moment of Truth" ---------------------------- Dunc Chaplin is my name, Ireland is my nation. Carlyle is my dwellingplace And heaven my expectation. ----------------------------
