WOob. I put this back in after a LONG time on my shelf and it is beautiful. 1194 that is. I remember reading some where that Woob was going to release their "long-awaited third album".. WOob had two albums? :) Whats the other one??? A. Mukerjee Vassar College Laws are like cobwebs, which may catch small flies, but let wasps and hornets break through. --Jonathan Swift

Re: the middle-eastern, loop-based query of a few days back (Orb Material rmx) Another worthy disc to seek out would be Woob's "1194" CD on Emit - forgot this one but was listening to it today at 4 AM driving back from the beach, and it's dope. Maybe not as Middle-Eastern as the Orb remix but it's still amazing, has tablas and chants and whatnot. The whole disc is subtle and amazing, long passages where he'll bring in a beat and add layers to it - takes ten or fifteen minutes to build and subside. Lots of cinematic ambience and barely audible spoken word bits. Organic, dubby, tribal - realized this morning how much I dig this disc. May be out of print, but worth hunting for.

Ditto - I had a bitch of a time tracking this one down, but it's well worth it. One of the best house cuts I've heard lately, people are complaining about Middleton becoming more "commercial" but if this is the direction he's going in I'm all for it. If you got into GCC's "The Way/The Deep" you should definitely score this one. Can't wait for Middleton's Modwheel LP to come out (anyone have spec's on that?) - Brock ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10 PM-12 AM US EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details...

a tune called 'mucho mumbo' by shaft has been getting a lot of play on R1 recently - it's being tipped as an ibiza anthem (i.e a big hit in the uk) - house on a carnival theme, with a big lifted female vocal. it's very commercial (i don't mean that as an insult) and the production could conceivably be gc, a bit like the modwheel tracks. can anyone confirm whether this is gc (as they have used the shaft name before, for another 'commercial' project..) <waves>

I loved your spot-on description of this one - must go dig it out for a re-listen. I was *so* into it when I got it. I remember going jogging in Hermanus - a little spot up the coast we'd gone to for a weekend's whale watching - and early in the morning seeing two whales close to the shore while I had this on the headphones - really a moving experience. It was spiritual, kids!! :-) I'm sure it is hard to find these days, with em:t gone bust an' all. On the back of this I bought Journeyman's National Hi-Jinx, which is totally thoroughly different. Not shit, but just Paul Frankland in a different guise. I * np : Patio - Liam it's Raining

Surprisingly, I found this to be utter crap, but I think I'm alone on this one. I much prefer his earlier release, Mama 6. Have you listened to Woob - 4495 (second in the series)? Not as good as 1194, but damn good. Oh, and what part were you listening to when the whales came up, by the way? I hope it was the end of track two where the male choir sings such sweet chords. I tingle every time I hear that. Would have been SWEET. np: woob - 1194 (end of track two!)

count me in as another fanatic Woob fan. i don't ever really listen to my copy of Nat'l Hijinx, but 1194 has been played in my house more times than any other disc, hands down. i've heard a few of the tracks from 4495 from various comps -- 'fourteen thirty-three,' 'pondlife' and 'later.' i really like all three of these, but every time i see 4495 up on someone's FS list, by the time i've emailed them it's gone. that's happened at least 3 times to me. is there any other way to get this one nowadays besides grabbing a used copy? ,rj../ ___,">www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1
