I just got Phoenecia: "Randa Roomet" in the mail today:) I just would
like to comment on what a great release this is! For those that are
behind a bit, "Randa Roomet" strikingly sounds like Autechre... more
closely to the "Cichlisuite" release as far as the sound renderings are
compared. I give Kay & Del Castillo props for such a great EP. So, if
you are a fan of Ae or somewhere along those lines, I would recommend
you pick this up!
A1
SOMORY:
As I stated above, this outing has some of the same crunchy qualities as
"Cichlisuite" and even "Chiastic Slide" Disjointed electronic stabs
that strike here and there in the beginning of the track and continue
on... til a friendly little breakbeat fills in the empty spaces. This
track is very Ae in style!
A2
Y-INTERCPNKT:
This track starts out like one of the tracks you would find on the
"Anvil Vapre EP." I believe track two or three with the breaky beat
thing going. Anyhow, now enters some xylophone tones and a muffled
little melody that is hidden underneath the beats as it emerges and the
beats fad away. All the while there is some sort of Ae-like distorted
interference that changes here and there... taking on a drumming
pattern. Now the crunchy beats come back and your bouncing along til
the muffled little melody rises again and finishes out the track in an
ambient fashion like some Autechre tracks end.
B1
THONG:
Here we have some electronic distortion that appears to echo about which
lays down the ground work for... that good ol Soul Oddity Miami
bass-like beats. Played on top of that we have some electronic workout
which is undoubtably in the style of Soul Oddity with a Hint of Autechre
distortion for good measure.
B2
CAN:
Traditional Autechre electronics are presented here where the tones act
as the beats. There is a buzz-like tone going on as i chipper little
melody contrasts the beats but at the same time work well.
the beats periodically fad-out showing tones and noise that are not
there on the first listen. This track has an emotional feel to it and
it is nothing short of excellent.
Overall, I give this EP a 9/10.
