There are two new releases coming out this week that supposedly combine some very unique elements. The first release is a comp on the Mille Plateaux label and called: . Trash: Industrialsamplecoregouchbeat comp 2x12"/cd This release supposedly employs the talents of Jamie Lidell, Si Begg, Milky Boy, DJ Decay,Spymania and others. I haven't heard what the sound is like but the players are interesting. And there is yet another comp along the same lines due out this week on the Noodles label called: . The Death of Cool comp 2x12" (Noodles) Tracks: . Zygmunt Janowski: Intro . Navario Sauro & Si Begg: Unknown Dialect . Mr. Mahoney: English Cubase . Sand: Desperate . The Wee DJs: Monky . Anal Parade: Ansaphone . Barry Pseudonym: Hi Pitch Acid . The Mutual Friend: I Have Failed . The Wee DJs: How Was It For You? . Si Begg: Brothers & Sisters . Barry Pseudonym: Heteroskedacity . Mr. Mahoney: Harmonica Storm . The Hibiscus Geronimo III Players: Boiled Grease Feast . Barry Pseudonym: Pissed Scratch Break . Barry Pseudonym: Distressing Ambience . Si Begg: Song Circle System . Van Der Hoogs County Curative: Circle OBS . Mr. Mahoney: The Cucumber Song . Si Begg: Back End I'm not familiar with all the names above but supposedly they are guises for artists on the Mosquito, Sativae, and Scandinavia labels doing wierd breakbeat/polyrhythmic electronica in the mosquito & spymania style. Both releases should be interesting. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

This has been out for three weeks or so. Really, really wacked out shit. All over the place from industrial-style drill'n'bass to dark, burbling ambience to country'n'western-dub(!!). Great package, too, with lots of nonsensical writings and such. Noodles is run by Si Begg (aka Cabbageboy) who's recorded for Ninja Tune, Spymania and probably lots of other labels that I don't know about. Anyhoo, anyone who digs the whole Spymania/Ill/etc. sort of thing will likely dig this as well. Greg

yep... tied with pf4ref and 0161 as my top three comps of the year (imho... dethofcool is to the 'fungle' scene as priviliged was to the manchester scene.) i posted a dragged out review-y bit on it back when it first came out if you missed it e-mail me.

actually, the sleeve led me to belive that noodles was run by si begg, christian vogel, and whoever runs no future (also indirectly responsible for spymania, i think): "no future in association with Mosquito [Vogel's label] and Cabbage Head [presumably Begg's label] presents: Noodles" btw, si begg also records as Buckfunk3000

from what i heard it also has c.vogel, and both seperate halves of wafta (hardy 'barry pseudonym' finn and martin 'value ape' wood). anyway, i think this whole cross pollination of 'typical' (if you want to classify the beggster as typical) techno and 'drill n' bass'(or watever the kids are calling it) is very good if these 'drill n' bass'ers ever want to be accepted as music that's more than a few guys with a toy casio synth and an amen (erm... i think mr. horne said something along these lines about "drilln'b" when the spunk jazz disscussion was going on. granty, pick up 'death of cool' and see just what we're talking about) btw, lance (or anyone else)... have you got a mosqiuto discography? thanxys multys
