In a message dated 97-09-30 00:36:30 EDT, you write: << the year. still doesn't address why this "mainstream" vs. "underground" thread keeps popping up, which i think has more to do with the kids trying to establish a pecking order than any real desire to discuss idm or music in general. >> I figure we can expect the "mainstream" vs. "underground" arguement to pop again when the nin album is released. I really don't mind a lot of the arguements and debates that appear on the list---- there can be some good stuff to learn from these things. But the "evil mainstream" vs "the poor, innocent underground" is very boring and it has no resolution. Oh well Anyways, does anybody have a transcript of "the wire"'s review of the rdj album?? Also, can anybody tell me what gong albums are worth purchasing after the trilogy albums?? THANKS

for everyone who's been slamming me: ok, i see your point. but my point was a little tougher to see because of the words i chose. what i'm trying to say is this: none of this really matters. i guess it's kind of a 'those who know are those who know' kind of thing. people with soul. i know i'm probably pissing more people off again, but it happens i guess. i just feel that musicians are usually i little bit more in tune with what's up than just the listeners. (and no, i'm not talking about events that happen or who's on what label) that's why i said this place is filled with too few musicians. i'm just sick of this bjork/credibility/underground thread. dig: if the music's good, keep it and listen to it. don't feel ashamed because the big-boys of idm@hyperreal.org yell at you for fucking your girlfreind to kiss instead of orbital. and all you tightasses about 'keepin it real' in idm, pah. i can understand supporting a scene and all, but pissing on everyone else is pretty lame. (and i particularly feel that it's non-musicians who have the biggest problems with genre-closed-mindedness. just in my experience.) ok. i'm ready for round 2 guys. -eric -- .- Doubtful Productions Evolving Media -. eric sherman http://www.doubtful.com szale@doubtful.com
