Sorry to bug you - but in a sale I just bought a cat in the bag extra cheap special - box-less, information-less and clue-less :-) It's an EP, running time of 47 minutes, 7 tracks with the following info on it: 1. This Time (Jonny L & Roni Size Mix) 2. This Time (Cool Dub) 3. I Won't Let You Go 4. Jazz 5. Wa-Oh 6. Nightlife 7. This Time (Carl Craig Mix) It's out on EMI/Virgin. Any information on this, especially the release date? I tried an Alta Vista search on Jonny L and lo and behold it threw a heap of Prodigy URL's at me, but nothing opened, they were old links, the browser returned error codes and... basically, here I am, hawking my plea to you! Thanks in advance. I * np : International Peoples Gang

The last I knew of "Johny L" (could this guy be someone else?) he was doing crappy hard techno on the prodigy's label, XL Recordings. I recall a few singles, compilation appearances etc. etc. but nothing really too substantial. While I can't speak for his new ep, pretty much everything I've heard of his was rather, er... shit. Judging by the interest in this new ep however, I'd be hesitant to generally shrug him off without first having a good listen. Last I checked, Mr. L. made one of the most engaging drum and bass moments of 1997 w/his 10" "Piper" track that took the road FAR less travelled (read: did NOT involve 'terror bass') this year, but bellied up to the bass bar with as much 'big up your chest' attitude as his contemporaries. The track tightropes darkness and atmosphere over a rolling river of a bassline and upstream jumping computerized punch in vocal "PIE PURR". Hey, what do you know, It's one of the cuts featured on my new mixed tape, DESCEND - 092097 Teep RTcassDNA Email me in private if you're interested in perusing the tracklist... AMP PS: Anyone acquire the Johnny L. full length w/Piper remix yet?? On Mon, 22 Sep 1997, Aaron Michelson wrote:

Well, if I'm not mistaken, Jonny L's "This Time" came out in '95 on XL-Recordings. I think this is an awesome E.P. full of spacey jungle beats - Tracks 2, 3, 4 & 6 are my faves. Those of you who like Goldie and stuff like that will certainly enjoy the first track. The die-hard Carl Craig fans will certainly enjoy his remix too. I'm not too much into them, but to me, that sounds very similar to what I've heard from them. Not very experimental or anything, but definitely very nice to listen to and clean. Nothing to do with his remix of Prodigy's "One Love" - which, in my opinion, sucks shit. :-) Topher.
