G'day,
Picked up a 2CD comp yesterday called "Elements" - I mentioned a few days
ago that it had an "exclusive" Autechre track. Details are:
Autechre - "Puch" 7:45
From the liner notes:
"On a Friday in Decenber '94, Rob Brown & Sean Booth (aka Autechre) played
to a small but wondrous crowd in a large Collingwood warehouse. The
amorphous live rendition of "Flutter" glistened. That weekend, exposed to
the Victorian coast's crisp skies, breaking waves, and stark rock forms,
Autechre wrote "Yarra". The phonetically challenged pair have since renamed
it "Puch". Autechre tweak and tinker their machines into existence purfektly."
I'm hopeless at reviewing, but the track is typical Ae of the period (ie
b/w "Anti" and "Tri Repetae") - more rhythm & melody than abstract noise.
Kinda like "Flutter" but with a (repetative) hip-hop beat.
I think this is an Aussie-only release - there are a number of local acts
on here (including Sassi & Locco, half of which is one S.Mallinder)...other
artistes include Fatboy Slim/Jimi Tenor/Squarepusher/Red Snapper/DJ
Shadow/etc, so you know what to expect...
For the hopelessly anal: "Elements" 2CD, dist. by MDS, cat# H2So4
Cheers,
Geoff
