alright. i've been listening to porter ricks _biokinetics_ cd on chain reaction, and i'm looking for stuff similar to that. i am NOT looking for thomas koner solo (i've got enough of that already), ok? and also re:those CDs in funny little metal boxes on basic channel/chain reaction/whatever, anyone know anything about vainqeur or maurizio? nah. you're too busy arguing about who did the music for the last batch of levi's commercials, right? love, [grievous@netaxs.com] [http://www.netaxs.com/~grievous/] "no more dinosaurs, no more trees couldn't find the vinyl, no record stores." I think i can help you with your inquiries. your inquiry will not go unheeded this time. Here are the porter ricks releases currently out: Porter Ricks releases: . Porter Ricks: Biokinetics CD (Chain Reaction) . Porter Ricks: Vol 1 12" (Force Inc) . Porter Ricks: Vol 2 12" (Force Inc) . Porter Ricks: Spoil 12" (Force Inc) . Porter Ricks: Zebu 10" (Barooni) . Porter Ricks: Port Of Transition 12" (Chain Reaction) . Porter Ricks: Nautical Dub (Tidal Mix) 12" (Chain Reaction) . Porter Ricks: Port Of Nuba 12" (Chain Reaction) Porter Ricks remixes: . Love Inc: R.E.S.P.E.C.T (The Remixes) 12" (Force Inc) . Experimental Audio Research: The Koner Experiment 2x12"/CD (Mille Plateaux) . Nonplace Urban Field: Remix 2x12"/CD (Incoming) Vainqueur stuff: Lo-fi trancy techno & ambience by Maurizio that is just as gritty as the Porter Ricks but not as strong on the percussion. Here are the releases so far: . Vainqueur: Elevations CD (Chair Reaction) . Vainqueur: Elevation II 12" (Chain Reaction) . Vainqueur: Reduce 1 + 2 12" (Chain Reaction) . Vainqueur: Elevation 12" (Chain Reaction) . Vainqueur: Solanus 12" (Chain Reaction) . Vainqueur: Ploy 12" (Maurizio) . Vainqueur: Lyot Reshape 12" (Basic Channel) Maurizio stuff: More gritty techno with a deep dub influence. Maurizio has been producing some of the best deep gritty techno since early 93. Maurizio also has some housier and pure dub outings on other labels. He (or they) also record as Vainqueur, Phylyps, Quadrant, Octagon, Cyrus, Rhythm & Sound, and Round. He has over 25 releases on the chain reaction, basic channel, burial mix, main street, R&S, Wau! Mr. Modo, and his own Maurizio label. Here are a few maurizio releases in addition to the vainqueur stuff mentioned above: Dubby techno outings: . Maurizio: s/t CD (Maurizio) . Maurizio: M7 12" (Maurizio) . Maurizio: 4 12" (Maurizio) . Maurizio: 4.5 12" (Maurizio) . Maurizio: M5 12" (Maurizio) . Maurizio: M6 12" (Maurizio) . Cyrus: Inversion Basic 12" (Basic Channel) . Maurizio: Domina 12" (Maurizio) . Quadrant: Dub I+II 12" (Basic Channel) . Octagon: Octaedre 12" (Basic Channel) . Phylyps: Trak II 12" (Basic Channel) . Maurizio: Ploy 12" (Wau! Mr. Modo) . Quadrant: Infintion 12" (R&S) Housey outings: . Round One: I'm Your Brother 12" (Main Street) . Round Two: New Day 12" (Main Street) . Round Three: feat Tikiman Acting Crazy 12" (Main Street) Dub outings: . Rhythm & Sound w/ Tikiman: Spend Some Time 10" (Burial Mix) . Rhythm & Sound w/ Tikiman: Never Tell You 10" (Burial Mix) Remixes/Co-productions: . Infiniti: Game One 12" (Metroplex) . DBX: Alien EP 12" (Peacefrog) . Blake Baxter & Eddie Fowlkes: The Project 2x12"/CD (Tresor) If you like the Porter Ricks CD I recommend getting the Maurizio and Vainqueur CDs as well plus you should get the Basic Channel compilation CD too.

As usual Lance has done an uprecedented job! id also like to reccomend the basic channel compilation, which for me is one of my favourite cds of all time... IMO even better than the Porter Ricks (and i love the porter ricks!).... If you are looking for other stuff of a similar nature.. which doesnt have a porter ricks or basic channel connection i can reccommend : Rehberg & Bauer : FaBt on Touch recordings TO:32 Ryogi Ikeda : +/- on Touch recordings TO:30 (this is INCREDIBLE!!) Phillip Jeck : Loopholes on Touch Recordings TO:26 Steady State Music : Wieland Samolak on Imbalance Recordings ....this one i think may actually have some basic channel connection..... .... i heard at the time that it was Wieland Samolak and Basic channel but this was never confirmed... anything by 'Final'... which is Justin K.Broadrick (Techno Animal/Godflesh) but this stuff is hard to find.. all of these reccomendations are very experimental! they dont as such sound like basic channel (but what does!!).. but are i think coming from the same direction and use a similar array and philosophy of sound and noise... however beats are pretty scarce on the above mentioned.. so beware!!... but then i always liked the beatless (or almost beatless) BC and PR stuff best. Imbalance Recordings is an experimental sub-sub-sub-label of Basic Channel. they've released several CDs and 12"s, most of which are damn near impossible to find. one is a compilation of Andy Melwig's (the other half of Porter Ricks) Async Sense recordings. in an interview for MUZIK, proto-legend Manuel G?ttsching actually commented about the quality of the Weiland Samolak album ("it was very, very experimental. i think that [Maurizio] has a good feeling for sound, a good feeling for producing music."). i don't suppose that recommendations could come any higher than that. G?ttsching... wow! can anyone suggest sources for the Imbalance Recordings disks? i know that the most recent title has been fairly easy to find, but what about these older catalog titles? Hardwax? anyone have a FAX #? anyone heard the recent Terranova/G?ttsching 12" on Compost? thoughts, comments?

... especially his Solaris recordings, both on his label, Lo Fibre, and on the Michigan's own Alley Sweeper label. i think he just released another LP (as Solarus) on Release, too. i'll add one more, too easily overlooked because it's unlike anything else on the label: v/a: Silver World (Soup-Disk JP). this compilation is, quite simply, extraordinary. some of the most gorgeous experimental music you'll ever find. the disk is divided between six artists but retains a remarkable consistency. e-mail me if you'd like a more in-depth review, because i'm not sure whether or not it's 'cleared' for public posting. some of the _Silver World_ artists have also contributed to Touch/Ash International's _Chiky[u]u_, the first (of three parts) in a series of internationally-oriented experimental compilations. Japan's entry also features Aube, MSBR, Tak++, and others - all harnessing the sounds of natural objects and locations for their superb, subtle compositions. exquisite. the 2nd (American) entry, _Scatter_, includes such mainstays as Daniel Menche, Jim O'Rourke, and Earth - along with Kevin Drumm and John Hudak. less delicate - considerably more abrasive, but still uncommonly good. have you ever gotten up in the morning and thanked the Heavens for the existence of labels like Ash International? please tell me that i'm not alone. might we also sing the praises of Aube's excellent _Starred Gleam_ (Iris Light UK) while we're at it? sure... why not. cheers! GuerillaG2-G4/ gg gg2g4ink@sprynet.com np: Coldcut - Let Us Play (Ninja Tune) play on, Matt! play on, Jon! you've come up ACES yet again, Ninjaz!
