Know this was gone over recently, but could anyone send me info on any good stores on Telegraph (or immediate area of Telegraph) as I'm heading in tomorrow (already know Ameoba and Rasputin's, but I remember a few others getting mentioned...) Maybe I'll convince the wife that Oakland isn't to bad and get her to visit Drop Beat with me =) thanks in advance __________________________________________ sfwd@sonic.net HeathenNet (Under_Constant_Construction) http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ heavy rotation: Squarepusher 'Hard Normal Daddy' We 'As Is' v/a 'The Knights Who Say Dot' Scar Tissue 'TMOTD' Speedy J 'public energy no.1'

Tower on Durant (east of Telegraph up the block from Smart Alec's) has a fairly decent techno section - they still have a copy of the Japanese Derrick May 2CD as of this afternoon. Rasputin's on Telegraph has a passable selection of new stuff, but their prices are random and they have Ace of Base CD's in the used techno section (the techno section is in the same area as the jazz section, in the video rental area). Amoeba's selection of new releases isn't as strong as Rasputin's, but they're the shit for used stuff. Their techno section is in the back, in the first row beyond the clearance section. You might also want to check out Mod Lang on University, but I've stopped going there because I'm fed up with their lousy service and attitude.

Do go - it's not in a bad neighborhood at all (better than the one Amoeba and Rasputin's are in), and it really is a super store. C. -- C.Hilker (cspot@hyperreal.com) "We don't relax, we Rolex"

Drop Beat! Drop Beat! Drop Beat! It's only a matter of blocks from the Berkeley stores anyhow on College. This has the best selection of IDM records I've seen anywhere with the exception of Berrwick street. It's the perfect store, everything brilliantly arranged and in nice trainspotter friendly plastic sleeves. Be sure to say hello to Bobby for me. He's the geezer that looks a bit like Cylob. hehe. While you're in there pick up the three records on their label super cheap if you haven't already, they are all REALLY good. Whatever you do don't get coffee down at that cafe at the corner, they don't know what the fuck they are doing (you do NOT put 2 TALL shots in an iced double latte, thank you). Also, across the way from Amoeba in Berkeley there is this restaurant that has the best turkey sandwich I've ever had in my life - it was on super fresh baked wheat bread. heaven. its near the corner opposite the corner amoeba sits on, it has like wood paneling and when you go inside there is a bar on the left. do not miss it! _____ / ,-,_) /,_) (/ RESH Live & Direct from the G-Spot, Orange County, California, USA http://www1.linkonline.net/fresh/fresh.htm

mod lang (on university, north of shattuck) is fairly reliable. the days i leave that store with less than $60 worth of idm vinyl are few and far between. most of the shoppers there are scouring the used indie rock bins so that leaves you plenty of elbow room for the good stuff. not that there's anything wrong with [some] indie rock, mind you... did someone mention sebadoh some posts back? keep in mind though - mod lang is the store that the fellows who started drop beat split on, and i've had some overly critical scowls cast my way when i've mentioned them in mod lang. but they've done a good job at bouncing back and there's some gems to be found. overall, above even the venerable amoeba, and certainly nowhere near as snooty. or crowded! and on the lunch tip, :) crepes a go go across the street has some dyn-o-mite crepes. mmmm. sonor ex tempor /// solemn np: stereolab (fluorescences ep) *IT's a FaCT!!* Sylvia Miles had the shortest performance ever nominated for an Oscar with "Midnight Cowboy." Her entire role lasted only six minutes.
