I don't remember my source but I remember reading some press regarding Craig's new record/CD and quickly scanning a line about a US tour? Though this would not be unheard of as he does come around semi-often...when when when? NYC dates? where where where? I've seen him dj three times and on the same Detroit level of a May/Pullen/Saunderson show...was levelled on all three occasions. Sorry for crossing the Detroit boundary on IDM. Maybe its not as off the mark as Trent and co. And on *that* note, as I started that thread ( at least as far as the big ball of controversy that has stunk up this list for the last 4-5 days ) I hope that we can move on as many have said. I'm not suggesting that THE THREAD STOPS WHEN I SAY THE THREAD STOPS! which is silly. Its always amusing when listers jump in and play list cop, but whatever. Just a friendly suggestion: lets move, peoples... an idea, not a dictate but an idea- anytime that we ( or at least you whiny arguing types ) are going to go to bat about whose opinion is right and wrong in:re IDM/industrial/Trent Reznor/ hair length/ knowledge of sampling/copywright/ who knows the most about blah blah blah blah blah...why don't we do this? * state your age ( someone did make a comment of "how old are you"? in regards to the petty fighting this list sees) this does NOT imply that the younger are less worthy or intelligent. I know some pretty enlightened 19 year olds who have a lot to say about IDM and also make a lot of it themselves. I also know some guys/gals who have realy been around who still don't know SHIT about music. They use age as a crutch for experience. Lame. * List 10 LPS/CDS from any genre other than IDM if they are in your collection. * Do you make music? d.j. ? write? * Are your professionally involved in the music industry? As with age, the other three points are irrelevant except in context. No one is smarter or better in any way implicitly because of their music collection, music making habits or career. However, it * CAN* say a hell of a lot about the quality of your arguments and provide all of the readers with a bit of a background. The digital barrier of the internet can be a nice shield against peoples blatant ignorance and utter stupidity. Again, I can't stress this enough: its not about age, music collection, music making habits or career. However, it will certainly let us all know where you *realy* stand in relation to your arguments. The flamers could respond: I don't see the point. Why should anyone know about my private life? What does age have to do with it? Why should I own anything more than my Aphex Twin and Orb records? Why should i make music or d.j. to argue about music? What does my *job* have to do with it? nothing at all realy, its just nice to get a fighters *stats* before they get in the ring. let the games begin....if I jump in the ring, I'll be sure to do what I've suggested. np: my cat meowing for breakfast, running shower, ice cream truck outside, birds, the new Speedy J turned down quiet ( what a strange turn for Papp...cool! ) for those interested: new Sub Dub and Byzar debut CDs on Asphodel. Fairly good idea, but I think I have a better one - currently, majordomo filters out any posts to the lists that contain the word "vnsvbscribe" (replace v with u) and sends them to the list-owner for approval or other action. My suggestion is to add a few keywords that always pop up in these pointless discussions that never go anywhere, say, "mainstream" and "sellout." Cutting out posts that contain these words and nipping these ridiculous discussions in the bud would make the list a much nicer place, I think. (I also think that posting flamebait news about "mainstream" musicians without provocation, which is what started the most recent discussion, should be grounds for removal from the list, but that's probably too much for most people). Of course, an even better solution would be to create an unwritten rule that each listmember should post at least one article containing a review, news item, or other useful contribution to the list, for each article he or she posts that doesn't contain one of these... Yes, yes, yes! I think Fresh, Stuart, g, Aaron, Sean plus others I've forgotten to mention should win some sort of award for adhering to this unwritten rule. It's so much easier to bitch about trivial items than post something worthwhile to the list. Right. It should be automated removal from the list :P __ __\ \ / /_\ \ \_____/ , m7=
