idm? - this was the stuff that defined idm basically if it wasnt for transmat - most of the people making idm (splutter splutter) soundz would not be around today. run by derrick may - transmat was the label that introduced the computer funk of detroit to the rest of the world - this music was revolutionary ten years ago and still sounds as good today, transmat was inactive from 1992-1995 must have transmat 12"s (they are still all in print) rhythim is rhythim - nude photo (1987) rhythim is rhythim - strings of life (1988) rhythim is rhythim - beyond the dance (1988) model 500 - ocean to ocean (1990) psyche (carl craig) - crackdown (1989) suburban knight - the art of stalking (1989) dark comedy (kenny larkin) - war of the worlds (1992) joey beltram - energy flash (1990) rhtyhim is rhythim - icon (1996 - recorded in 1992) plus silent phase (stacey pullen) - theory of lp (1995)

it was indeed a transmat compilation and is very hard to find now, orig came out in 1992, - buy the 12"s instead if you are in the americas - order them direct from submerge in detroit (http://www.submerge.com) sm@4thworld *cutting edge mail order* http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/4thworld/

Call me crazy, but perhaps it is possible to accomplish both objectives. Two and a half Sublime Blech moments 1. Mixmaster Morris plays Cost II 2. Mixmaster Morris plays Parasight (unfortunately both at +8)(but still sublime to hear them) 1/2 Well, a personal thing I'm not going to reveal here Why has no-one mentioned Jimi Tenor? adam oh yes, Versivo was quite good on Saturday, with Freeform filling in for Plaid.

It should be noted that 'Innovator' the excellent japanese Derrick May compilation is getting a proper UK release in april courtesy of Open (according to current rumour). Hopefully this will bring it's price into the range of the uninitiated (I paid 40 UKP for it, worth every penny). Phil Gakak Gak Gak Gak Gakak Gak Gak Gak Gaaak Gaaak Gaaak Gaaak Gakak Gak Gak Gak

Hmm, I have a disk called "Innovator", subtitled "Soundtrack for the Tenth Planet", credited to "rhythim is rhythim/derrick may/mayday", and curiously enough in a slimline CD-single case, which fooled the used record store who sold it to me for $1.99. On Transmat, NWKCD21. Is the above a different compilation? Yup: Derrick May 2.04.24 Innovator Sony (JP) SRCS 7980-1 .15 "Rest" 1.08 "Rest" 8.22 Strings of the Strings of Life .51 Another Kaos (Beyond Kaos) 4.31 Free Style 1.29 "A Rest" Beyond Kaos 7.12 The Dance .57 Spaced Out (Love Hate Mix) 7.11 It Is What It Is 1.06 Some More Spaced Out 7.09 Beyond the Dance (Cult Mix) .55 Feel Surreal Ends (The Feel of Surreal!) .19 "To Rest" 6.02 R-Theme 6.00 The Beginning of the End/Montage (Sensitive Mix) 1.26 Phantom (A Relic Mix) .19 Phantom (A Relic Mix) 6.34 Kaotic Harmony (A One Time Live Recording in Detroit) 1.12 More Phantom 5.28 Salsa Life 14.35 Nude Photo/The Beginning 1.02 Another Relic (From the Relics) 4.29 Drama 22.31 Strings of Life (MS-4 Version) 7.09 The Beginning (Ken Ishii Remix) 6.12 Wiggin (Juan Atkins Remix) Note: Strings of Life isn't really that long, it's just 6.30 or so, with silence after that to seperate Derrick's originals from the remixes, or something. They still had a few copies of this at Tower on Sunset in Hollywood in December (along with the Japanese 2CD of '76 14').
