Heyas.. I have a question about Cleopatra records. I was going to send a demo to them, someone told me I should. Cleopatra does a lot of licensing from other labels and various reissues. They have released more than their fair share of lunkheaded industrial dance, but also some good licensed material like Download, and reissues like Kraftwerk and Psychic TV. Isn't Hypnotic a division of Cleopatra? I've heard some really lame stuff on both Hypnotic and Cleopatra, but I just picked up a System7 album that was on Hypnotic and it was pretty good. I don't see the harm of sending a demo to Cleopatra, anyhow. It couldn't hurt any. kmd

One of my favorite idm records of 1996 was released on Hypnotic... a danish band called Kraftwelt. If you can forgive the undeniably cheesy name, you'll find an album's worth of incredibly well-produced songs leaning towards the experimental electronic side of the techno spectrum. The album I have is called "Electric Dimension" for those interested... I can definitely vouch however the level of crap on Hypnotic, having heard LCD's new album. Imagine a total rip-off of the chemical brothers, with cliche Doom 2 samples. Yeah, I suppose I could, but if that label releases stuff that's straight out of the arse, then people will think my stuff is just more crap releases, and I don't want that. :) but I think I'm going to send out demos to every possible label anyway. So, what kind of stuff do you do? I do mostly ambient/acid/experimental. hmm... I've got all the software I need right now. This is basically the case with me. Except, since I'm on Amiga, the samples are only 8-bit, and are a bit crappy due to some electrical grounding problems. Although, this should be fixed soon. Of the Cleopatra/Hypnotic releases that I'm serviced, there's a rough margin of crap to classics that I find rather unnerving. But I've learned to listen carefully before passing judgement. I mean, I still can't recommend enough Hypnotic's "Kraftwelt" album. Everything I have heard on Hypnotic was pretty generic trance and industrial bands trying to sound techno. I agree with the people dissing the label. I do give them (Cleo) respect for releasing the Kraftwerk box set. I have heard a lot of techno and I have picky taste, it might be good for some but its definitely not for me William Samuels

That's a waste of perfectly good respect. Cleo only released their Kraftwerk box because they were running out of time on the license for their shittily-repackaged reissues of the three albums in question, and they had to clear their warehouse of the unsold copies before Capitol did a repressing of their own. Well, I enjoyed the book that was inside as well. I think as a label they suck, but I will give them some credit for releasing a Kraftwerk boxset. William Samuels

theyve also released alot of old hawkwind, on-u-sound comps, system 7, laswell, etc., etc....and they got FAST mailorder...and relatively efficient....
