Err yeah, was the talk of analogue heaven for a bit this week. Frankly I think it's great but no new gear that makes it easier for people to produce by-the-book techno has ever meant more good music came out. 10,000 boffins with 303's was bad enough, I shudder to think about 500,000 of them. FYI the 'name' producers of dance music have begun selling off their 303's 808's and 909's, at least in the US. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "i love the smell of new carpet. it makes me dizzy. just like when you fall in love." -- Mike Dvorkin Home Page, featuring Reagan on Black Velvet, the EMP Compilation CD, samples of my music, etc http://soli.inav.net/~kent/ Kent Williams kent@inav.net CADSI 2651 Crosspark Road Coralville IA 52241 (319) 338 6053 (home) (319) 626 6700 x 219 (work) (319) 626 3489 (fax)

I guess there´s some people who wouldn´t consider doing *by-the-book techno* and perhaps use this 303/808 emulator in a quite interesting way, ´specially if this program lets u manipulate the sound even further than the real thing, and what if some eurodisney/-disco twats decides to spice up their songs with a little bit of twerpy 303, well i guess neither you or i or anybody else will be forced to buy these records.

everybody needs a 303... :)

And we should all do what the masters tell us to, eh? ;) Frankly i don´t think this small piece of software will live long enough to leave some everlasting prints in the world of music. So far all the 303 clones that have been manufactured just haven´t been regarded as _housebroken_ even if they can/could produce the same sound as the original. Just out of curiousity i think i´ll take this little program for a spin tonight.

the demo version (which is all that exists right now) doesn't. i would bet that Propellerheads would be smart enough to either make the full version more manipulable or (more likely) come out with a separate program that does more and lets you at the guts of the physical model later on.

I hope you are wrong, because it bodes EXTREMELY well for the future of synthesis. If a piece of software like this can work and be useful, I am thrilled to find out what's gonna come down the pipe NEXT year! Just as a point of information, I used to work for Opcode, a big music software house. I called all my former colleagues and told them about Rebirth and they have all been totally stunned by the demo. And these are people who have "seen it all"...

Not sure what you mean by "housebroken" but I haven't heard a 303 emulator yet that sounded like the real thing... Well, until I met REBIRTH anyway. I have been fooling around with the demo for a week now and it is just uncanny. It absolutely, totally, 100% sounds exactly like a real 303 and 808. -- Jon Drukman / jsd@gamespot.com

Yep, I agree! I downloaded it the other night for my PC and was a little pissed it wouldn't work...It looked so damn nice on their web page. Being too stoned to try to fix the problem, I just went and broke out the real 303 and made some noise the old fashion way. Went to work the next day and got one of the Smackintosh heads to download it... 5 minutes later this dork (who listens to slayer and shit like that) is pushing buttons and tweeking knobs like a mad man. His head was bobbing up and down and he looked like he was going to have a seizure. What's coming out of the tiny macs speaker? Crazy fucking shit! Sounded a lot like prototype 909 to me... ...but with more distortion (due to the 2 inch speaker being forced to do something other then beep or make that lame 'welcome to macintosh' sound) So today, my mission in life is to get a copy of that shit on ever power smac in the building (about 25 total) and make some fucking noise! That program is the shit! word to the mothership, brock
