Hi y'all. My name is Miles and I've just resubscribed to this list from oever a year ago. I'd like to get some feedback on the Jungle side of IDM. I'm not very pleased with the drum tracks of some of the Jungle I've been hearing including Spring Heel Jack or various other Jungle compilations. I could swear everyone is using the same darn beats. Considering the roots of Jungle; the sped up 33 to 45 breakbeat samples. I'm surprised I haven't heard more variation. I believe more can be done than the synchopated snare and eigth note cymbals. Am I just not hearing enough joungle or what. What do you think?

You're quite right. In a year or so its all going to sound like that infernal disco beat of 78. But the overall scene responds to criticism quite a bit, so expect it to change. I expect techno to drop the 4/4 by the end of the year. 10-4 over and out good buddy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chris Sattinger reprogramming our reality through disco new records coming on : Synewave(jan), Subvoice(feb), Sativae(?) I'm sure this is news only to me, but I just discovered that Ed Rush (Head Rush) is not a person, but a duo who have made tracks under several aliases. See the Tech' Steppin comp. for example. Good stuff, anyway. Miles

Ummmm. Maybe Ed Rush co-produces his trax but he *is* a person. At least, he was a physical presence on the dj 1200's when he and DJ Trace spun here in boston at Al Fouje's "Dark Christmas" gig. Obligatory Trainspotter content:: Trace has a single in dub plate at the moment (or in December when he played) called Replicant which samples the Main Titles piece from the Blade Runner. "pull back...wait a minute...go right...stop" Teep np: blade runner - vangelis!

out of my tiny (200 cd) collection i couldn't live without... not all pure idm but still relevent to the list- Woob - 1194 Brian Eno - On land Autechre - Amber Boards of Canada - Hi Scores EP Depth Charge - 9 deadly venoms Artificial Intelligence compilation The Orb - Ultraworld Psyche/BFC - Elements 89-90 Global Communication - (it doesn't matter, they're all good) FFWD>> Also, I have a friend who really wants to get into jungle/d'n'b but doesn't know much about what is good outside of the Good Looking stuff so I would really appreciate it if the good people of the idm list could send me some recommendations. And also, what Guy Called Gerald stuff should I track down if i loved "black secret technology"?

Here are my fave 6: Both Photek Albums: "Modus Operandi" "Form & Function" IMO, the best jungle producer i've ran across, but it's weirder stuff, especially MO. WE(tm) "Square Root of Negative One": just got this, so take this recommendation with a grain of salt. They've gotten rid of much of the "illbience" for a more regular jungle sound, without sounding like regular jungle. Lamb "Lamb": Really interesting, off-beat and unique jungle production with great female vocals over it Kemistry & Storm "DJ Kicks": IMO, a really good mix of hard jungle for dancing. Ben Neill "Goldbug": Nice production, and he does a good job of filling the middles with his miles-like mutantrumpet.

His remix of D*Note's "Criminal Justice": Sounds a lot like tracks from BST, but with Ragga-style vocals over it about the Criminal Justice Bill. Speaking of, does anyone know of any web page with a description of the criminal justice bill and its history? I know it was an anti-rave law in England, and that Ae's AntiEP has statements against it on the sticker, and the above D*Note reference. Or if someone could just send me some info, i'd appreciate. Thanks. _________________________________ Adam Roesch / roesch@augsburg.edu University of Idaho / Moscow / ID / USA Visit my Fila Brazillia/Pork Recordings fan site: http://dogbert.augsburg.edu/~roesch/pork/ "Because success needs killing" TRICKY
