Trainspotter question of the week: I have the double CD version of Avantgardism and it only has one Tom Jenkinson track. Now I clearly remember seeing an advertisement for the comp. that stated that it also had a Squarepusher track in addition to the Jenkinson track. Am I imagining things or is this false advertising? This is the same Tom Jenkinson track that is on Alt.Frequencies. I thought most of the stuff on Avantgardism was just ok, nothing special. However, the Environmental Science track is worth a listen. The Tom Jenkinson track is really cool, but I already had it.

I have to say I am quite pleased with this 2 CD comp...the best "intelligent" (whatever) d&b comp I've heard. Very innovative, a lot of different sounds, and very club friendly-the best of both worlds IMHO. I am glad you feel this way, because I was hoping it was a going to be really good as well. In my opinion, I think the comp. has a lot of very good artist, but for most of those artist it seemed like their throw away tracks. What I mean is that they were tracks that never made it to their other releases. They were decent but they were lesser in innovativeness or quality (but of course this is subjective). I personally had higher expectations for the comp., that doesn't mean it is bad (just not nearly as good as I was hoping). The Tom Jenkinson track I already had from Alt.frequencies, the Plug track was alright (not as good as most of D'n'b for Papa). The Environmental Science track is the one that stood out the most, since I already had the TJ track. I am not trying to turn anyone off on the comp., I merely stated it because there might be some people that felt the same about wanting to buy it, so I stated my opinion. While most of the tracks didn't meet my expectations it could be a fun comp to mix with, since there are two pieces of vinyl. B i l l S a m u e l s w l s @ U . A r i z o n a . E D U
