I gave you the benefit of the doubt, went back and listened to the album. Whilst i can take critique 'on the chin', this posting stinks of more than that. This little rivalry has just been demoted from inane, to just plain sad. Ken, all your petty "vengeance is mine" bickering and vacant Dog propaganda ("important music," you said) over the past year has smacked of little more than the pitiful whining of a jealous boyfriend. Did you think you could continue using the Black Dog name (I don't care *who* owns it), make several kilobytes of promises, and *still* magically escape comparison or criticism? Just doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. Some suggestions for the book of Dogma: "Take it like a man" "Get on with it, already" Your tired 'merican-bashing bit proves you're out of ammo. No doubt it certainly is in poor taste and not exactly up to par manners to insult something you probably worked quite hard on (everyone knows you are a list member) directly to your face, there's no need to get down on us Americans. Considering this is a public forum, I debated whether or not printing my opinion on Ken's new album would be rude and unethical. Considering that the mailing list reaches over 900 readers, printing my opinion here is like printing my work in any other magazine. I respect Ken to the highest degree as one of the influencial pioneers of modern intelligent dance music. I have no personal gripes with the guy, just a few with his latest album. And it's not like the album has been flamed to death, as mixed reviews in various press will tell you differently. I can't agree more. I loved MFA the minute I heard it. After two minutes of listening I snatched it up. I feel the same way; I wish the songs could just go on and on, instead of being snipped so short. Anyone know if that Black Dog guy on the list plans to release any of the tracks in there entirety? I know, I am guessing that some of the tracks on MFA are longer than what we got. I hope there is more to them and that we get to hear them eventually. I have made a similar comment in the past regarding the +Phil+ parts on Bytes. I sure wished there was a full-length release of all the +Phils+ in their entirety (that is if they have any more length to them) if anyone knows that BD guys email (we see him on the last often enuff), I'd love to ask him:) -0 np: Disque 9 (crazy lo-fi shit!)

this was part of what i liked about MFA. the tracks are short, and they flow together rather nicely. i think the album works rather nicely as a whole, its like a long journey through time and space or something. id still have to say that bytes is my favorite album. the tracks on bytes dont have the complexity and progression that those on spanners have, or the flowing transitions of MFA, but nothing grooves like bytes. the dog will never do you wrong. -t

I feel exactly like you. MFA flows perfectly. it is just that Groove that bytes has, that I'd like to see again. I wonder if these short tracks, while being excellent, may contain more of what bytes does to all of us. Maybe not. We'll see in what the future holds in upcomming BD releases. Short is good.
