I heard a song in a tape a friend made me with samples from "God" by Tori Amos. Somebody said that it might be Carl Craig doing the remix. Does anybody know if there is any truth to this? I have not been able to find it anywhere and would really like to own it. If anybody can backchannel some info on this for me (label?) I'd really appreciate it. I have it. It was a domestically released single that I picked up at some chain store. No real big deal, but I guess it is impossible to find now. Someone else wants to trade me stuff for it.

I've been unsubbed for the past three weeks during which the following questions managed to obsess my thinking. In the interest of conserving bandwidth if any of these have been discussed in the past three weeks, don't bother answering and i'll look it up in the archives... 1. Will 'Music for Adverts...' get a domestic relase? (related question: anyone have a copy for sale?) 2. Has anyone figured at the xeroxed sheet of paper that comes with SKA006 (jega)? 3. Am i the only one waiting for a squarepusher/talvin singh relase? 4. who thinks the prodigy are not only good but also somewhat intelligent? 5. who finds that the noise at the beginning of dimotane co gets more beautiful every time i listen to it? 6. What's the sample played twice at the beginning of track 1 on bytes that goes something like "blah blah blah your mind"? 7. What's that strange buzzing that sounds like a drum machine overdriving on a too fast drum roll that i hear in avant-jungle (plug, squarepusher) drum tracks? 8. Any information on "our mate Andy" as mentioned in the Autechre mailing list letter? 9. (shameless plug masquerading as question) For the mac-blessed among us, there is an excellent shareware game called P'Tong; its sort of an inverted pong and VERY addictive. Its available for download on AOL, direct from the author at www.mixedmetaphor.com, or at ftp://ftp.amug.org/pub/amug/bbs-in-a-box/files/recent/ptong-1.0-ppc.sit.hqx The music is by yours truly...any feedback would be greatly appreciated. -Arjun

Umm...don't know. Warp has particularly spastic relations with american licensing. TVT/Wax Trax has done some in the past, but they've gotten very choosy about what they license. American licensing of European stuff is in general a sore subject. The UK labels, on a hit release, can sell as many units on import to the US as they do in the UK/EEU, so they are NOT incredibly eager to license. Plus, no offense to any label people on here, a 100% ethical record company is an oxymoron. Imagine having to sue some bastard transantlanticly to get royalties overdue. It's bad enough if he's across town. Then there's the self-defeating foot dragging the US labels do. "We licensed Bimbotronic's latest, and brought it out, and it did squat!" You release it 9 months after the import is widely available, leave off tracks, and change the packaging for the worse, what do you expect.

Umm...no.

If that keith bloke would wear a hat and proper trousers, he'd seem more intelligent to me. As it is he looks like one of the fucking munchkin officials from the Wizard of Oz in drag. They've got some brilliant tracks, but a bit away from the 'listening music' favored here. Don't be ashamed if it floats your boat.

It's the sound of a sampler doing 128th note rolls at 140bpm+. You can get the same sort of sound on your home computer if you chop the first 20 milleseconds of a snare sound and repeat it 30-40 times. It's a particularly nasty digital effect that I think should be used sparingly if at all.

Did anyone else see Goldie's 'Cunt Face' T-shirt in Mixmag a few months ago? If my story is correct, Goldie apparantly got a little miffed at Liam's Goldie : Bjork as Michael Jackson : Lisa Marie comment he made a few months earlier. He vented his anger through a T-shirt; a photo of Liam's in his current Bozo/Firestarter getup and the words 'Cunt Face' below it. A pal of mine who enjoys IDM but doesn't know alot about the artists said upon seeing the T-shirt 'Wow. I'd like to get one of those. It would get me kicked out of the mall quick.' Hmm. Good question. Have there been any sort of rivalries in the techno community? Apart from Luke Vibert calling the Chemical Brothers 'cunts' or something similar? .grant.h.horne .http://delta.is.tcu.edu/~ghhorne/

It was Keith, not Liam.

Speaking of our favorite liasonette to the elvish realm, I was passin a tube the other day when "hard copy" was on (or 'ard copy as it would be known in england), and who should appear but Bjork! Next thing I see is that Bjork launches a airborne, hairgrabbing, nail slashin' attack on the nearest reporter! Good lord...what was that all about? I think it said in that Future Music with Ziq+Black Dog etc. that Ken Downie disliked or had a general distaste to RDJ's music ... ______________________________ \_/ "\/\/\__"\/ "\/ "\/\__"\_/ / / / / / / / / / / / / ' / -= Serkul/CYDoNiA =- / /\/> / / / / / / / / / /__ \__/ \_/\__/\__/\/\/\/\/\/ \/

Truth is most American labels aren't interested in records unless: a) It has vocals. b) It has guitars. c) It's guaranteed to shift 100,000+ copies. We are having to face the fact there is virtually no market for interesting music in the USA, relative to the size of the territory. If it's not tried and tested no one wants to know.

Sadly, this is generally the case. g.
