this just helps to reinforce my idea of Locust not being dark. Oh, but that was just sarcasm. I don't think it's as dark as Weathered Well, and OF COURSE not as dark as "Truth is born of Arguments." These records scare the hell out of me..... ps--On listening to the Jega and Freeform singles, I really do think Freeform is more to my liking. Whoa Helen... most every song on here is forboding as hell. A trudge trudge TRUDGE straight into the bowels of a genocidal meatgrinder! their (cd) single (lips & heaven) is on too pure, but the only mention of a full length release that i have seen describes a vinyl-only release on the touch label. fwiw, jon wozencroft is credited with design & photography on the too pure release, i seem to recall his name associated in a design capacity with a lot of touch releases. mike ______________________________________________ a laser portrait of Ax's brain would have found it harmonizing with the blissful notes of the noise, and all Qin could do was badger him as to how he'd fooled the Octaplex entry scanners...(the big empty, j luceno)

Finally found a copy of Scala's "Compass Heart" on the weekend. Really wonderful stuff. I like the alternation between "pop" songs with vocals and the instrumental tracks. But now, I need to find the "companion" album that Too Pure released around the same time. Has anyone in Toronto seen it anywhere? I'd like to buy it locally if possible. And while I'm on the topic, would anyone be interested in exchanging a CD copy of Scala's "Beauty Nowhere" for my barely played vinyl copy? Same with the Aurobindo LP (played a little more, but still in excellent condition). I also picked up that super-cheap Soup-Disk sampler disc and I'm listening to it right now. Very good so far. Did anyone else happen to notice who compiled it? It's a name that's pretty well known around these parts... :) Greg

AFAIK, "To You In Alpha" (that other Scala release) has fallen victim to a war between Scala's labels and cannot be purchased anywhere right now. The Soup Disk comp. is excellent....let's just say that someone's ear does not neccessarily reflect their penchant for trustworthiness. I hope things have changed from his end. jeff Greg Clow wrote:

Was it ever released, though? I seem to recall reading a sort of comparison review here on the list a couple of months back, but I could be mistaken. Greg

It's been freely available in the UK, on the Too Pure label (cat. no. pure77cd), for some time. Track listing for those that care: Slide Remember How to Breathe 17765744G (excerpt) Colt Wires Blank Narrow Shut Eyes Alpha Be Together Breaking Point Still Palace 17765744J I'm still waiting to get hold of "Compass Heart". But it's definitely a lot 'harder' than "Beauty Nowhere". -- /\/)ark headspin - http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/

Ahh... instrumental tracks... now I can go out and finally buy this thing (not that I have anything against whatsername... Peacock or whatever... I love her). I've been waiting to hear even the tiniest bit of info about this LP since it came out.

I certainly haven't seen it, but I remember when the "Slide" EP was reissued a few months ago, there was a black sticker on the cover which said "From the forthcoming album, 'To You In Alpha'"... I *LOVE* that fucking EP, BTW. Probably my favourite Scala/Seefeel thing ever. Period.

I think I played my "Beauty Nowhere" 12" once. :) I didn't like it nearly as much as "Slide". Aurobindo? Que?

I bought this and listened to it the other day... nothing on it really caught my attention, except the names in the liner notes... :) superfuzz@home.com

Aurobindo was (is?) Mark Van Hoen and Daren Seymour. Only release so far is a wonderful dark ambient album called "Involution" on Ash International (a now defunct sub-label of Touch). Came out in 1995. Like "Beauty Nowhere", the LP preceded the CD by a fair length of time, so I bought the vinyl and then got cranky when I found out a CD was forthcoming. Greg

Hi, I thought that I would let people that were interested know that there are copies of To You In Alpha floating about. I picked one up second-hand yesterday. It is unmarked so I don't know if it is a promo or part of a limited issue. What does it sound like? Well I'm not too good on describing music and I only listened to it once through last night. The lasting impression of the album is that most of the tracks use a combination of voice, acoustic guitar and piano (with some electronics and treatments added of course). So it is quite gentle and floaty in nature, although there are one or two tracks where they decide to rock out on. I hope this helps and good luck tracking it down if you are interested in it. A couple of thoughts: Locust (try the Morning Light album or the newest one, although they get mixed press on this list) The new Cat's Miaow EP on Darla (Bliss Out) The new Piano Magic album Maybe the Sneakster album too, although I haven't heard it yet and haven't read much good about it yet either.
