Hi all. I am probably going to be in San Fran on Friday and/or Saturday the 16th and 17th (this weekend). Are there any good shows going on either of these two days? If not, where are the cool clubs in the area? Also, what and where are the good record shops? Thanks in advance. Spliff

Actually, for IDM-type music, you shouldn't waste your time at Rasputin's or Amoeba-- head down to Mod Lang on University Ave. (just above Shattuck) instead. On Wed, 14 Aug 1996 14:27:52 -0400 Tom Tonger <t.tonger@ix.netcom.com> wrote: > At 09:57 AM 8/14/96 -0700, you wrote:

One word: Coldcut! Find the Ninjatune crew at Mission Rock on Saturday (sittin' on the dock o' the bay). Ask around for directions. Not to be missed. There's also bound to be a few one-offs worth checking. 1015 Folsom could be a nice starting point. As far as records, check out Open Mind Records on Divisadero below Haight. They've got a good buyer for IDM, my man Tomas. He's also buys loads of good used IDM on vinyl. Not bad prices either. Maybe you misread Tom's post. He said Amoeba and Rasputin were the place to get a "great used selection". He's absolutely right on that. And the new selection at Amoeba is getting better and better thanks to Peter's diligent work. Rasputin on the other hand is seriously flailing. I had to laugh when someone mentioned that the "logical progression" 2CD was a steal at $18. Amoeba had _3_ used copies for $10.95 a piece. (That's $9.85 if you pick them up on Thursday night!) Hell, even Rasputin had a mispriced new copy of the Chimera CD for $12! Sure, Mod Lang gets them fast and furious, but the prices... If you're looking for vinyl, though, this is the only place to be in Berkeley. I could go on, suffice to say that I own more CDs with an Amoeba sticker on them then any other store. -- David "not an employee, just an addict" Jones
