I'm a bit behind on reading the idm mail due to workload, so some of these are doubtless already being discussed, but anyway here's some notes on some stuff I picked up, and in a few cases didn't pick up, on Monday... Gescom - Key Nell (Skam) The third Gescom EP is finally available, and encased in bubblewrap. Very nice tracks too, but I'm a sucker for Autechre so I would say that. The track sides are labelled E and F btw. Orb - Auntie Aubrey... As already discussed, nice Quad vinyl package including a wide variety of Orb remixes, from Maurizio to Depeche Mode. All good stuff too, if you like their kinda thing. Manuel Gottsching - E2-E4 Ah, at last I own this classic piece, and on vinyl too. Absolutely sublime, an essential item for any chillout collection. Plug - Drum & Bass for Papa (Blue Angel) Yes it is out at last, but goddamn I haven't had time to hear it yet. Is Blue angel a subsidiary of Rising High, a new trading name, or what? Chimera - Valley of the Spirits (rephlex) Nice sounding mellow B12-ish techno, at a very reasonably price (the CD was less than 8 quid in "my" shop). Didn't buy though as it didn't grab me, unlike... Cylob - Cylobian Sunset (rephlex) More what I wanted as it has a unique sound. Think along the lines of Aphex and u-Ziq but not quite like either - there's a unique tonality to both the crunchy beats and the synth sounds. Nothing like as dark or hard as "Industrial Folk Songs" though. Cylob - Loops & Breaks (reph.) 18 tracks, each is a loop-and-a-bit, ie they evolve slightly but they are not fully fledged tracks. What you get here is a double vinyl set, but the two albums are identical - cool or what? Better learn to scratch and transform now I suppose :) Mike Flowers Pops vs Aphex Twin As Fresh said, a slightly watered down take on the HAB style. Haven't had time to check the other trax yet. There are 3 more on the 12" and a further 3 in addition on the CD. Evolution gives you the Horn (Univ. Lang.) Another Horn 12", some nice electro stylings on here. Can't remember the title, but it was mildly suggestive. Panasonic - Osasto EP 4 tracks of nail-hard beat-driven minimal electro grooves and weird noise from the Finnish analogue-meisters. Watch your bassbins! Porter Ricks - Port of Nubia (Chain Reaction) Very strange polyrhythmic stuff from the ex-Basic Channel Stable. Loads of weird off-tempo noises make this hard to listen to on anything which doesn't have enough bass to let the real beat shine through. Burial Mix 10" featuring Tikiman Damn I can't remember the artiste/title, but this was mentioned a few weeks back - more evolution from the BC mob, this time to a dub/reggae groove. It skanks along nicely in a subtle kind of way, and has a real hypnotic groove. Paul Johnson - Second Coming (ACV) After TA on the Trance Atlantic comp and his remix of "Flash" I had to check this. As Kent reviewed it too, wicked pumping jack trax. Steve Stoll - Pacemaker More trax. Some tough house/techno cuts on here. Also check the "Elastic" 12" which has a Hardfloor remix and is pressed on red vinyl with saw teeth cut around the outside! Harthouse 100 Compilation of 8 Harthouse tracks, most of which seem to be new. Mostly on a harder techno tip, with a few electro-based tracks, and all wrapped up in bright orange corrugated cardboard! I too picked this up, and haven't had time to hear all of it yet. What I have heard is wicked, not as wierd and wonderful as the singles, but excellent dnb in a slightly more normal stylee.

I bought this one on the strength of recomendations from this list (hey, thanks guys!) and by god I love it. Nothing can beat the combination of huge beats and beautiful mellow tunes on top. (cf a couple of tracks on makesaracket, and most of the Theory of Evolution)

Rural Sex Part 1 - The Enlargement of the Pant. Possibly the finest record title of a generation, and an improvement on the Horn's last 12 which was cool, but slightly off kilter and odd (which is good sometimes, just not this time.) This one is groovier and more down to earth with lots of acidy electro squiggly funky bits. Cool! Enjoy! Andrew C.
