no!
i agree a lot of the time it's mechanical and cold, but if you're lucky
that 4/floor can be really funky, even when it's not back in the mix like
herbert, or surrounded by intricate percussive bits.
i was just reminded of this fact as i listen to alec empire's "before the
dawn"
some feel the funk, some don't, i think you may have to search for it a
lil, but it's worth it
