Nothing should shock us any more.
We really should be completely jaded and cynical by now.
The vapid mortgage-supporting urge to sell out one's principles hit rock
bottom when Johnny Lydon/Rotten's voice became the soundtrack to an
automobile ad - for a doubtlessly non-trivial stack of currency.
Of course, Sir Rotten, of "Anarchy in the U.K.", perhaps more appropriately
labeled "Opportunism in the Wake of Mounting Expenses", could always blame
his turncoat style on his sometime guru Malcolm McLaren, the epitome of the
"philosophy is only phasion" lifestyle. Auteurs, poseurs, richer than I,
spit on their audiences - but I still like the music. Is it self-hatred,
or should art (a term which begs the question in this context, but so be
it) be separated from the artist?
After all, Picasso treated his many female acquaintances in a less than
enlightened manner, but you can't fault the misguided mysogonist on his
unerring sense of color, now can you? Perhaps art theft is our only
recourse.
Enough for now.
I just realized what a brilliant name Single Cell Orchestra is. God, I'm
slow sometimes, especially for an unrecognized (not to mention unrealized)
genius.
