Just to give you a roundup of the Vortex rave in Cape Town, South
Africa, that I'd been anticipating all year - Tsuyoshi Suzuki (Matsuri
/ Joujouka) headlined a mainly trance outdoor party, but last year
he played the most amazing cold hard techno set ever - from 2am -
7am and I was looking forward to more of the same.
At about 6pm I heard from one of the organisers that Suzuki's box
of music was "lost" by Malaysia Airlines; all he had was whatever
he crammed into hand luggage, poor bastard.
As it is, I dozed through most of the event ... 'strue :-) We were
camped close to the chill tent area where Fletch from Krushed &
Sorted played really cool dubby mellow stuff, 65% of which I knew,
so it was great just lying between my kids in the tent listening to
the familiar sounds reverberating. Got on the dancefloor from about
2:45-4:15am to catch what I could of Suzuki's 2-4am set, but it
didn't draw me in and the next thing I knew I woke up in the tent at
8 in the morning!
The most interesting bit was hearing "lager lager" from
Underworld's Trainspotting sample coming through some damn
hard techno beats, resolving into the big chordy bit with the whole
crowd going "whoooooooo" and then back to the pounding beats.
