I was wondering if any more IDM has been spotted in TV ads. apart from the Levi ad (Biosphere) and Pirelli ad (Caustic Window) from last year. The reason I ask is that there?s a tune in an ad for a science program here in Chile that is really excellent, which I haven?t been able to identify. Unfortunately, I don?t imagine too many of you will be able to help me with it. Lots of love Tim

This isn't advertising related, and I'm sorry that I can't be more specific, but I did hear Caustic Window "Popcorn" on a news show. They were talking about the trend in movie theatres who boast "light" popcorn - even though the stuff is still really fattening and nearly full of cholesterol. Anyway, I rushed to grab the vinyl during the show and verified, to my surprise, that someone in broadcasting actually had this record available. I've heard bits and pieces of FSOL's "Accelerator" album being played as background music for schmnews (is it news or schmooze?) bits on a show we have running here in Los Angeles called "Extra". I, of course, fell over dead from shock. This isn't really advertising but in a cartoon/anime/japanimation movie I saw (Macross Plus, episode 1) they flash the AFX logo on a billboard with the following words: "AFX, SAW II, the new album". The movie takes place way in the future so I don't know how this is possible. It was a pretty cool movie though. ************************************************************************* *"Miniskirts caused feminism. Women wore miniskirts. Actually wasn't it an ad for SAW 23 or something along those lines? On a totally unrelated to IDM note: check out Macross Plus, it's much better than Macross 2. khannan suntharam

The most appalling use of IDM I've ever seen (well, _heard_) on TV: Once I left my TV tuned to (American [crap]) MTV, and ignored it until I heard the familiar strains of Aphex Twin's "On"... I looked up and realized it was being used as background music to "The Real World" (blech). Hopefully the negative association will fade soon and I will be able to listen to "On" again. :) <*>-------- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "What's the good of having mastery over cosmic balance and knowing the secrets of fate if you can't blow something up?" --Terry Pratchett, "Reaper Man"

Here in NY, K-Rock (92.3) dropped their classic rock format in exchange for modern rock. In their new promos, they use Meat Beat Manifesto's "Son Of Sam" and "Edge Of No Control" as background music. 'Tis a shame this type of music isn't played on their regular format. Paul Rafanello onnow:Namlook II
