Another dreaded tr*p h*p comp, but with a heavy Wagon Christ influence. To wit: The Real Trip - Further Self-Evident Truths Rising High USA 87004-2 (Distributed by Moonshine Music) 1. Wagon Christ - Reedin (ReDone) 2. Air Liquide - Stratus Static 3. RHC feat. Flava - Move Ya (Born Free Dub Mix II) 4. Bedouin Ascent - Off The Bone 5. Ride - Moonlight Medicine (Portishead's Ride On The Wire Mix) 6. RHC - Feel The Fire (Wagon Christ Electro Mix) 7. Project One - Cheeba '95, I Like To Smoke Marijuana (Wagon Christ Me Too Remix) 8. Ruby - Paraffin (Wagon Christ Vocal Mix) 9. Black Dog - Pillars & Mirrors I really liked the Air Liquide track, which surprised me. Didn't recognize the Black Dog track, but it's their usual excellent stuff (copyright on that track is from 1992), two ditties in one actually (a 9-minute song followed by a 3.5-minute one, both on the same track). My other favorite would have to be the Ruby track, sublimely creamy. I thought it was strange that tracks 6 and 7, inside the booklet, do not have "Remixed By Wagon Christ" in the credits, as track 8 does. Dunno what to make of that. Track 3 is remixed by Coldcut. At the bottom, it says: To email Rising High USA contact: nicole@primenet.com Overall, pretty darn good, if you like this kind of thing. It won't change anyone's mind, but it is a US comp with a couple of "big" names on it, so it shouldn't be too hard to get. Adam J Weitzman Individual, Inc. _Pillars and Mirrors_ is taken from the _Black Dog Productions EP_ 12" on Rising High. Tracks: Flux Flux (d mix by Arno) Otaku Pillars and Mirrors ...and it's a top EP. _Flux_ is one of the simplest BDP tracks you'll hear but it's quite beautiful. _Otaku_ is brilliant _Bytes_ era BDP too. This is one of my favourite BDP releases, after _Bytes_ - buy on sight (if you can find it). || [CiM] || s.walley@uea.ac.uk || http://www.sys.uea.ac.uk/~u9323899/

What's this thing with the word 'Otaku' ? keep seeing track names with it, artists with the name and probably soon a label... what does this mean? snow

I was pretty pissed off when I saw this at first because the tracklist differs so much from the import but after a closer look, the differences are so pronounced that it might as well be a seperate release. The import tracklist is: Air Liquide : Stratus Static Wagon Christ : Phase Every Day RHC Featuring Plavka : Move Ya (Born Free Dub Mix II) Black Dog Productions : Pillars & Mirrors Bedouin Ascent : Tomb of Eagles (Live at Phoenix) RHC Featuring Plavka : Move Ya (Bedouin Ascent Silicon Grooves Mix) Red Light Distrcit London : Red Light 2 Project One : Cheeba '95 I Like to Smoke MJ (Wagon Christ "me too" Remix) Electronic Dub : Electronic Dub 2 Cranium HF : Bella Donna (Wagon Christ Junglish Mix) Wagon Christ : Free Bass :: Alan M. Parry :: fluid@hyperreal.com :: <finger me for PGP key> :: http://hyperreal.com/~fluid onnow: Kid Spatula (finally!)

Otaku is a japanese word. I'm not sure what it means in Japanese but it refers to people who are obsessive about a particular subject. Manga Otaku are nuts about Manga comix, and Video Game Otaku are nuts about Video Games. Otaku pride themselves on knowing every detail, no matter how trivial about the object of their obsession. I think that a fair numer of IDM list members are IDM Otaku. In other words Otaku == Trainspotter, more or less.

I think otaku also implies that they stay at home with their collections rather than socialize. Part of the obsession with detail comes from memorizing reams of contextless information in preparation for multiple choice high school and college entrance exams.

Not to draw this out any further, but a Japanese friend of mine says that otaku means house or home. I can see how it can gain a different meaning as a slang term. ObIDM: (question really). Anybody know anything about the Dougans/Cobain blokes from the UK? Last I heard, they were supposed to be making some cool funky TV show. Seems like they're just lying low for a while... not much in the magazines or on this list about 'em. Also, I bought 2 Bad Mice's album on Sm:)e, Kaotic Chemistry, and was wondering if one of the tracks titled "Underworld" could possibly have been written by Underworld? It sure sounds like it, very different from the other tracks on that album. -- guyjr@ulc49.residence.gatech.edu a.k.a., Guy Elden Jr.

just a bit ok? Some English speaking bloke might decided to take the genre called 'house' and give it a quick translation.... ?

How's the album? got a single and it was quite dissapointing. I bought it just because I got the wonderful 'Organized Chaos' on moving shadow and they were on the posse that put it out... snow
