Hmmm...I had great expectations - maybe too great - before starting up my CD-player with Tri Repetae in it, and I'm still not sure what to make of it. At the moment I would probably rate Amber as their best album, mainly because of it's great diversity; it has loads of unique sounds, and they had tracks that were both focused and emotional. T.R. has too many stringsections that doesn't go anywhere, and the sounds used on every song is a bit too similar to each other. The beats are maybe too predictable (compared to each individual track, not compared too other groups/projects/persons/people/CDs/ records etc), and you know where the track is going at very early moments in the track. I've heard it about three times until now, so this is only a too-soon- to-comment comment. I will give Autechre another chance, but as I said I am a bit disappointed at the moment.

Yes, It's a little hard to digest on the first few initial listens.

Some people will probably strongly disagree but I'd rate the best Autechre as Incunabula. Amber has some moments I'd rate as good or better as Incunabula, but while it has some great peaks it has some valleys. Not as consistent as Incunabula. Right now Tri Repetae doesn't come close to the first two albums but maybe it will in time. T.R. has too

When I listen to an album I try not to analyze it too much..ie. is it innovative? Is it compositionally simple? My final judgement is how often I listen to it and whether the music stirs feelings and emotions in me when I listen to it. Good music has an almost indescribable quality that you can't analyze and articulate in words. It either stirs emotions and feelings or it doesn't. If a piece of music stirs emotion and feeling I rate it well above music that may be technically superior, more complex, more innovative or whatever. It's obvious to me (although this is colored by who I am, my life experiences, my musical listening experiences) when a composition has these hard to describe qualities and when it doesn't. I'm not saying that those who want to analyze and break down a piece of music are wrong, but I don't think this is the bottom line. The bottom line for me is emotion and feeling.

Same here. I've felt the same way about some other things though and then things clicked. Tony
