Thought a few of you might find my recent confrontation amusing: --------------------------------------------------------------------- I was riding in a car with three greatful dead type teenage hippies. I was getting sick of the crap they were playing, so I turned off the radio, and put in a copy of the "Chemical Brothers" LP. The guys in back listened for a bit, and then cried out "Hey man... cool, this is Nine Inch Nails isn't it?" Seems our mainstream friends haven't quite grasped the concept of diversity in electronic music! Oh well... give it a couple more years. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ____ __,---' `--.__ ,-' ; `. I know of a few serious ambient fans whose first exposure to the genre was the Orb and the crappy Artof Noise ambient thing. Some pop music is indicative of an underlying style where, if desired, people can find things they like better than the pop slop they are listening to now. That is, if they aren't scared off by ridicule first... eh

Yes it is, but that song is from "Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise?" album. They also put out an album called "The Ambient Collection" or something (maybe some AoN'ers can provide specifics) that is a piece of new age slop, save about 3 minutes of one track. eh p.s. More electro, please.

About the Ambient Collection... It's true, it wasn't very good. It was mixed by Dr. Alex Patterson of the Orb and Youth has credit for it, but the whole thing just didn't turn out as well as one might have hoped. All the best bits are parts of actual AoN songs. I also find the AoN Remix album a bit attrocious. They've taken gorgeous tracks like Paranoimia and made them drab lifeless techno! Sad. The YMO remix album was much better! The originals are brilliant though! My favorites albums are Daft (which is a superset of Who's Afraid... I belive) and In Visible Silence (Paranoimia, Peter Gunn, Legs, Backbeat!). [fletcher]
