No it's not - real acid jazz doesn't rip off other people's music - they're real musicians who play everything themselves - where have you got this idea that they sample other people? Just because it's called 'acid' jazz doesn't mean they use samplers all the time...

That wasn't the case with "acid" house either, at least not until the UK scene developed - the original chicago "acid" sound in 1987 meant 303, as it does now, the UK "acid" scene of 88 was quite a different thing imo. But your statement is of course equally true if you substitute "303s" for "samplers" I guess I've takena bit of a tangent there - back to the core: The name "Acid Jazz" was surely introduced as something of a play on words or joke due to the trendiness/hype/whatever surrounding "acid house". Am I right?
