This may be a wank-job of a thread to start but I'm interested in compiling a mix tape of the melodic side of aphex twin for friends with delicate ears. So far I consider Ventolin (Probus mix) Polynomial in C Alberto Balsam On in that category. Suggestions? -- In an argument, it's useful to know if your opponent is just ignorant, or willfully and sincerely full of shit. -- Aristotle's Rhetoric (paraphrased). kent.williams@cadsi.com [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241/(319)626-6700]

Analogue Bubblebath, the track There's at least one somewhere on J4,J5 Surely quite a lot of SAW I? And there's that delicate piano one on "Surfing" - Quino-Phec I think J ^ __________ ________.__/_____ _||_/ James Skilton aka Steady J _[]/_____________[.__\____-_ DJ and Party Animal | | Part Time Hedonist |____________________________| Full Time Technohead |__|-' '-|__| Steady-J@Firefox.co.uk

Sure! "Xtal" for starters - both beat driven and melodic, and one of my faves. Also, I don't think you can go wrong with "Pulsewidth", "Ageispolis", and "Heliospahn", all from SAW I. These may not be ambient per se, but they're definitely melodic! Why not include Didgeridoo ? Or one of the shorter tracks of Selected II ?

Definitely use Analogue Bubblebath 1. Also there's loads on SAW I and II as lots of people have mentioned. What about .215061 from AB3 as well (quite hard, but still accessible)? Acrid Avid Jamshred and Next Heap With from ICBYD are also very pleasant... Tom Churchill E-mail: tom@chrchfam.demon.co.uk Techno/electronic DJ and musician

<This may be a wank-job of a thread to start but I'm interested in compiling a mix tape of the melodic side of aphex twin for friends with delicate ears.> Analogue Bubblebath (the song, not the whole EP) Quite a big chunk of "Surfing" SAW II, track 1.3, 1.7, 2.5, 2.12? (Whatever they're called!) Actually, there are quite a few "nice" numbers in his catalog. You just mix them right, so they don't clash with each other. -Phil
