Out now on Mo Wax Excursions (an off-shoot of Mo Wax for so-called "exursions into techno", but IMO really not that 'techno' at all) David Caron's "Fantasy on a fantasy" (released before as a track of the gorgeous four-tracker Eevo Lute cat. 010 and also on the Eevo Lute compilation-album "Agenda 22"), which come together with 3 remixes.. MWEX 004 David Caron A1. Fantasy on a fantasy A2. (Mark Broom Remix) B1. (Tranquility Bass Country Fried Remix) B2. (ESP Probe Remix) In the Mark Broom Remix not much is left of the original, what either stays is a nice funky sort of 'Mark Broom jazz' track (the abstract sounds as on his recordings for Ifach, Pure Plastic, A13, New Electronica etc together with jaziac things..). Mark Broom himslef also has recorded a 'hiphop-beats' 12" for the hiphop excursions series (long live the boxes!). Tranquility Bass takes over and slows down the bassline and add some orient-sound samples which make it a very nice laidback track. The ESP Probe Remix starts with slow and fat funky-drummer beats, and after a while the bassline comes in, togehter with some voice (?) samples make it togeheter a dark sounding track.. I have seen at least 3 "techno" excursions, (inc "Claire" by Pulsinger and the other one that was just mentioned - but I just deleted the email :(. And also at least one "hip hop" excursion. A sticker on each one proclaims "this is the first in a series... and the third will have a box". Seems to be a bit confusing to me. Unfortunately as these were all in my shitty local HMV shop (OK so there may be some good rekkids in there, but no listening facilities unless you count the latest "Now thats what I call the greatest lame pile of commercial dance tripe in the world - ever" which they are always playing and the 3 listening posts which always have the latest East 17/handbag/hyped indie band), so I have not been able to listen and thus have not made a purchase. I've managed to pick up the first four in these series (in other words the first two excursions into hip-hop and the first two into techno). As far as I'm aware the third in each series is not out yet (though I did hear that they might be coming out today in the uk). Does anyone know any more about the release dates for these and the next two pairs? The sleves are confusing - apparently its a misprint on the second in each series which says its the first (if you understand me). The thing to do is check the serial no. MWEX 001 - 004 so far. The record shop I bought them from got them all mixed up initially so be careful. The box for all five in a set comes with the tird (next one). All in all they're good, but their main attraction is their collectability. For me they're not as exciting as some other Mo'Wax stuff, e.g. the excellent Time Has Come U.N.K.L.E. EP Chris
